Race 1. (11:50) Dexion Victoria Hcp 1100m

Back Me

2 Mellifluent (Bet Now: $4.80) on top in the opener. James Cummings trains this colt, who debuted at Canterbury when a heavily backed odds on pop and despite a few nervous moments in the run, he got clear and knuckled down with purpose to win and win well. Been given a good break and has trialled up well in Sydney for his return.

Danger

4 Husk (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Team Hawkes trained filly that is heading in the right direction. This girl resumed at over 1000m at Sandown where she sat near the speed throughout before being clicked up by Childs and away she went for a dominant win. Had trialled super in Sydney leading in, has good ability, good racing style, appeals as a key chance.

Long Shot

1 Blue Renegade (Bet Now: $5.00) hasn’t done much wrong in a two start career for Matty Ellerton and commands respect. Did more than enough on debut here on the Heath track before going to Sandown where he produced sustained speed from the outset over 1000m and was too good in a nice effort. If he can stretch the brilliance to 1100m, he’ll take running down.

Race 2. (12:25) Next Payments (Bm78) 1600m

Back Me

5 My Xanadu (Bet Now: $5.00) gets the nod but not really a race I want to get involved in. This filly has had two career outings, winning on debut at Geelong before going here where she did a bit of early work to land on speed and just felt the pinch late behind Sure. Think if she finds the top here and gets some form of control, she’ll be hard to run down.

Danger

3 Stylish (Bet Now: $4.00) brings solid enough form lines and is dangerous if there is petrol left in the tank. She comes through a Stakes race at Morphettville when getting back in the run but that said, she was one of the first off the bit and plugged to the line behind Poifect. Dangerous with her best.

Long Shot

2 Subrising (Bet Now: $4.00) has found winning form and she can go on with it. That win came over the mile at Ballarat where she got into a decent spot behind the speed before angling clear and knuckled with purpose late to win and win well. Good test here, but think she can measure up.

Race 3. (13:00) Vale Rod Mcqueen (Bm70) 1400m

Back Me

2 Episodic (Bet Now: $3.20) is flying for Clarken/O’Shea and deserves a crack at Melbourne. She has won her past three, the latest being two weeks ago on the Parks track where she came from last in a fast run race and launched late between runners to win impressively. If gate one isn’t a negative, she’s going to take beating.

Danger

11 Arqana (Bet Now: $10.00) looks a mare heading on the up for Team Freedman. She ran three weeks ago over 1400m at Caulfield where she got a fair way out of her ground and although she was never a winning threat, she did make up ground and was good late in the piece behind Fancify. Leading contender I say.

Long Shot

1 Subliminal (Bet Now: $11.00) commands some form of respect. Team Corstens trained mare that was a strong winner at Wagga during their Carnival, sitting on speed throughout and kicking on strongly to win the Queen Of The South. Good test here, but has a good racing style and is in well after the claim.

Race 4. (13:35) Beretta’s Langwarrin Hotel (Bm78) 1100m

Back Me

9 Jewellery (Bet Now: $4.20) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. This mare was a narrow second fresh at Canterbury before going to Scone where she was there to win and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get there when third to the in form Elson Boy. Back to Mares grade and back to 1100m, she appeals.

Danger

4 Holly Lolly (Bet Now: $16.00) is a quality mare for Clinton McDonald that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Jan 6 when down the track in the Black Pearl at Geelong behind impressive winner Va Via. Not really a noted fresh horse but has jumped out super leading in and her best is more than good enough to take this out.

Long Shot

11 Charmed Run (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Luke Oliver trained mare that comes to town and she’s a mare in form after winning over 1000m at Cranbourne where she got a suck run in behind before getting clear air and finished best to win and win well. Good test here, but think she can measure up and hard to knock how she’s racing.

Race 5. (14:10) Gmh Fire & Safety Australia (Bm78) 1200m

Back Me

4 Legio Ten (Bet Now: $8.50) has to be given another look. James Cummings trained gelding that ran at Scone a fortnight back where he was ridden as if it was a barrier trial, getting back to near last, nearer the inside, and although he made ground, he was never really a factor behind Dollar Magic. Fitter, more positive ride, he can win.

Danger

15 Bews (Bet Now: $6.00) is several weeks between runs for Price/Kent since racing here where he got too far out of his ground and did make ground but was never really a threat behind Awapuni Princess. Gets the big jock upgrade and hopefully won’t be too far away this time around.

Long Shot

8 Bellinger (Bet Now: $7.00) is flying for Team Hayes and he gives every indication of appreciating 1400m. He ran in the Red Hot Nicc race from a few weeks ago at Caulfield. He got too far back in the run and gave the leaders too much head start but I loved the way he found the line late in the piece. The way he’s racing, he has to be respected.

Race 6. (14:45) Manhari Metals Hcp 1100m

Back Me

6 Keep Reading (Bet Now: $4.40) is a beauty for Team Jolly that will jump on speed and take running down. He resumed with a bang on the Parks track at Morphettville a fortnight back, producing sustained speed from the outset and gave nothing else a look in, winning impressively. Right racing style and the extra 100m should be fine.

Danger

3 Extremely Lucky (Bet Now: $8.50) appeals back to 1100m and back to this level. This guy did a super job first up when winning the John Hawkes before going to The Goodwood when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly but wasn’t too bad in defeat behind Benedetta. Back to the 1100m, a fast run 1100m, he will take beating against these.

Long Shot

2 Curran (Bet Now: $12.00) will likely be spotting them a start but should launch at them late. He resumes, having not raced since the Australia Stakes in January when far from disgraced in defeat behind Veight. He’ll get back, but if they go silly in front, look for him to launch at them late.

Race 7. (15:20) Ern Jensen Funerals (Bm100) 1600m

Back Me

1 Munhamek (Bet Now: $9.00) is a ripper for Nick Ryan and has class on his side. He comes through the Milford race from two weeks ago at Flemington where he got back to last in the run and tried to make a long sustained run from out wide but just couldn’t quite finish the job when a narrow fourth to the Moroney galloper. If he’s within range, he has the finale to win.

Danger

8 Dashing (Bet Now: $9.50) will jump on the bunny and take running down, which is what happened when winning two back here before going to Flemington where he did too much work on speed but battled on and was game in defeat behind Milford. If he finds the front and gets some form of control, he’ll take running down.

Long Shot

4 First Accused (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Tassie raider who likely has eyes on the Winter Championship Final. He resumed at Caulfield a few weeks ago where he was four/five wide throughout and albeit in the best ground, his run was a beauty in defeat behind Shock Em Ova. If he can get a more economical run in transit here, he’ll be dangerous at odds.

Race 8. (16:00) Thoroughbred Club Of Australia Hcp 1200m

Back Me

I do like 3 Heuristic (Bet Now: $13.00) as a horse and am going to be very forgiving of his last start, which came at Newcastle three weeks ago when wide no cover throughout and on testing ground, he just whacked to the line behind Sir Ravanelli but was far from disgraced in defeat. Think with a better run in transit and on a firmer deck, he’ll take beating.

Danger

2 Pivot City (Bet Now: $6.00) is one of the key chances. He comes through the Tobin Bronze at Morphettville when near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get the win when third to Skybird. Back to this level with fresh legs, he has the right form around him to give this a shake.

Long Shot

1 Shesallshenanigans (Bet Now: $10.00) is a ripper for Simon Zahra and with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance. She ran down the straight two weeks back at Flemington and kept finding the line but couldn’t quite get the win behind Links. Not sure she is as effective around a bend vs the straight, but with her racing style, she’ll be around the mark.

Race 9. (16:35) Logical Staffing Solutions (Bm84) 2000m

Back Me

15 Mirzann (Bet Now: $4.00) is knocking on the door for Chris Waller and strikes a very winnable race here I feel. He ran two weeks ago at Flemington where he was held up for a period of time in the straight but that said, I thought he was out early enough to win and get there, but had to settle for a second. Hard fit now and up to 2000m, I say it is D-Day.

Danger

2 Taramansour (Bet Now: $16.00) is a key threat. Game effort in the Wagga Cup two back behind Fawkner Park before going to 2400m here three weeks ago where he tried hard but the trip was just a bridge too far behind Let’sbefrankbaby. Like him back in trip and with a kind map, he appeals.

Long Shot

18 Dschingis Prestige (Bet Now: $8.00) is heading in the right direction. Ciaron Maher trained import that second Australian run at Caulfield over 2000m a few weeks ago where he was one paced when asked for the effort but he ran through the pain barrier and kept finding in a really good effort. Plenty of room for improvement, he’s in the mix for sure.
