Randwick racing tips

Race 1. (11:10) Tab Handicap (1400m)

#1 – Wanaruah @ $2.20

This is a much harder field than what he faced on debut at Canterbury, but he’s a nice type in the making.

The two-year-old colt by Snitzel won by 2.3 lengths in heavy conditions, and he’s likely to get similar conditions on Saturday.

Being from the Waterhouse/Bott stable, punters should expect him to roll forward.

Race 2. (11:45) ASX Maurice Farhart BM72 (1100m)

#5 – Detendu @ $5.00

Detendu capped off consistent form with a win at Warwick Farm, and we fancy his chances of winning again.

The son of Epaulette meets a much harder field, but he broke maidens by two lengths, and that was a fine display.

He gets his chances in premier company, so back him on an each-way basis.

Race 3. (14:20) Tab Highway C3 (1600m)

#1 – Cranky Harry @ $2.00

Cranky Harry has been in good form in Queensland, and he’s good enough to win a Highway.

The Matthew Dunn-trained gelding owns three wins and six placings from 12 starts, so he knows how to race well.

The fields are always even in these races, so he goes into selections.

Race 4. (12:55) Midway BM72 (1600m)

#9 – Charming Legend @ $4.20

Charming Legend won on debut at Randwick, and he’s worth backing again.

The Les Bridge-trained son of Deep Field handled the wet conditions to win by 1.8 lengths, and although only midweek form, it was still a good win.

This stable knows how to get their runners ready for race day.

Race 5. (13:30) James Squire BM78 (1800m)

#9 – Aix En Provence @ $13.00

Aix En Provence comes from provincial circuits for Sara Ryan, but getting in light on the weights helps.

The three-year-old gelding owns two wins and five placings from seven starts, and he handles all track conditions.

Carrying 52kg should see him right in the thick of the action.

Race 6. (14:05) I Love 0% Cocktails BM78 (1400m)

#3 – Defining @ $8.50

Defining is always around the mark without winning, and she’s worth another bet on Saturday.

The Annabel Neasham-trained mare is a three-time winner overall, and her consistency keeps the connections happy.

There are no superstars in this field and she could take advantage.

Race 7. (14:40) Elite Sand & Soil BM78 (1600m)

#8 – Nails Murphy @ $4.20

Nails Murphy is a former import that hasn’t shown his best in Australia, but we’re happy to stick with him.

The four-year-old gelding comes off a fourth at Rosehill behind Franz Josef, and we expect that form to hold up nicely.

Getting the inside draw is another positive.

Race 8. (15:20) Kanebridge BM88 (1400m)

#4 – Substantial @ $18.00

Substantial ran well for fifth fresh up at Warwick Farm and we expect improvement now.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding drops back from open class racing for this, and that’s another positive.

An inside barrier adds weight to his winning chances.

Race 9. (16:00) Toyota Forklifts BM88 (1800m)

#11 – Aramco @ $7.50

Aramco is another runner we expect to improve with a run under his belt.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding ran fifth at Rosehill fresh up, and he won his only second-up start.

Getting in with 55.5kg on his back makes him tough to beat in an even betting field.

Race 10. (16:35) Schweizer Kobras Lawyers BM78 (1000m)

#6 – Gitalong @ $5.50

Gitalong showed good pace last preparation when scoring three consecutive wins, so we’re happy to stick with him.

The three-year-old faces older horses in this race, but the son of Zoustar has more upside than most in this field.

Look for a betting push on race day.
