AURORA | Two boys, ages 12 and 14, were shot and injured by one or more juveniles at or near a north Aurora basketball court Wednesday afternoon, police reported.
Police were called to 12437 E. Ford Avenue at about 4 p.m. to respond to reports of a shooting. The address is a public basketball court near Aurora Hills.
“They located two victims, both juveniles,” Aurora police spokesperson Sydney Edwards said in a statement. “One is an 12-year-old boy, the other a 14-year-old boy.”
Both boys were taken to nearby hospitals with what police described as “non-life-threatening” injuries.
Officers at the scene said they located at least four juveniles at the scene they said are associated with the shootings.
Those juveniles were detained at the scene, police said.
“As of now, no one is in custody,” Edwards said. “It is believed that one suspect is still outstanding.”
Edwards said an initial investigation revealed the shooting suspects were known to the victims.
“Detectives responded to the scene and are conducting interviews, and CSI is collecting evidence. A weapon and numerous shell casings has been located on scene,” Edwards said.
Police said they are investigating what led up to the shooting.
