Two teenage boys have been charged over an incident in Southern Tasmania early on Wednesday morning that police allege involved a stolen car and high-speed chase.
The incident began around 3:30am when the 15-year-old from Clarendon Vale and a 16-year-old from Rokeby reportedly broke into a Bellerive home.
Police allege the pair stole cash and the keys to a “luxury vehicle” from the home, which they then used to steal the car.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle a short time later in the Bellerive area, but the boys managed to get away.
They were then allegedly clocked speeding at over 200km/h on the Brooker Highway at Granton before crashing the car in Bridgewater.
One of the boys was arrested yesterday at a Clarendon Vale home, while the other was taken into custody this morning in Rokeby.
Both have been charged with aggravated burglary, stealing, motor vehicle stealing, evade police, driving without a licence, exceeding the speed limit and computer related fraud.
The 15-year-old is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, while the 16-year-old will appear this afternoon.
