This filly ran two weeks ago in the Bob Charley at Randwick where she tried hard but on wet ground, she couldn’t pick her feet up when down the track behind Mnementh. Firmer deck, drops miles in grade/depth, good racing style, keen.

1 Flying Mikki (Bet Now: $6.50) is a quality galloper that resumes for Dave McColm. He is 3/3 to start his career, his latest run coming on Dec 13 when a dominant winner at Eagle Farm after getting a suck run in transit behind the speed. Trialled up super at the Gold Coast on Tuesday and you don’t know how good they are til they’re beaten.

9 Party Spirit (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Rob Heathcoate trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since March 9 at the Gold Coast when looking like a tired horse, finishing midfield behind Bring Me Kash. She is a mare who can sprint well on the fresh side, has trialled up really nicely at Deagon…watch the market.
Race 2. (12:18) Winter Provincial Stayers Final (78) 2500m

8 Chassagne (Bet Now: $2.80) is unknown at 2500m but is racing as if she will eat it up. She ran second to Almaraic at the Sunny Coast where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never beating the winner, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat when second. If she can settle closer, or get a drag into the race, she’s the one to beat.

1 The Right Way (Bet Now: $4.00) is 2/2 at Ipswich and has the right racing style to give himself every chance. Strong winner over the mile here two back before going to 2150m at Toowoomba where he led throughout and was strong to the line in winning. The rise to 2500m is the query, but if he leads and gets control, he’ll give cheek.

5 Tavistorm (Bet Now: $8.50) is one I can entertain for exotics. Stuart Kendrick trains this stayer, who ran behind Almaraic at the Sunny Coast where he got back to last and just spotted those in front too much head start but his finale was quite good and is clearly looking for more ground, which he gets here. First four contender.

8 Evocator (Bet Now: $9.00) is racing really well for Barry Lockwood and should take beating. He ran over 1800m two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he seemingly got every chance in transit from just behind the speed but just couldn’t quite see it through and the 1800m was a bridge too far behind Princess Rhaenys. Hard fit and back in trip, he appeals.

10 Madame Odette (Bet Now: $7.50) should appreciate a rise in trip for Tony Gollan. This mare resumed three weeks ago over 1400m at Eagle Farm where she got a fair way out of her ground and just couldn’t get involved, finishing down the track behind Geriatrix. Better for the run under the belt, up in trip, back in depth, she can run a much improved race.

2 Fifth Position (Bet Now: $11.00) hasn’t quite set the world on fire since joining Tony Gollan but this is one of the weaker races he has contested. Kept on ice since May 18 when plain against the race shape behind stablemate Tenzing. Quiet tick over trial at Deagon to keep him up to the mark, he’ll likely concede a start but be strong late.

12 Majestic Boom (Bet Now: $4.60) is a beauty for Lawrie Mayfield-Smith and it’s hard to get away from him. 4/4 to start his career, the latest win coming on May 22 over 1100m here, knuckling down with purpose and finished best to score. Kept on ice but he’s a winner, a line finder and confident he can measure up against these.

9 Rockribbed (Bet Now: $2.70) is a talented animal for Tony Gollan that resumes. This guy had a two run Autumn prep, placing each time, both over 1200m at Eagle Farm and each time he was good in defeat. Trialled up well in readiness for his return and maps ideally. Leading contender.

6 Beaux Rumble (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Gillian Heinrich trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Jan 27 at the Sunny Coast when just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when beaten a couple of lengths by Heroic Miss. Gun fresh horse and with two trials under the belt, the grounding is there to run well first up.

2 Sailor’s Secret (Bet Now: $11.00) tends to save his best for Ipswich and he looks to have returned in pretty good order. Both runs back have come at Doomben, resuming with a fourth over 1200m to Midnight In Tokyo before going to 1350m when on speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get the win when a narrow third to Magic Conqueror. Good racing style, saves her best for here, dangerous for sure.

10 Oughton (Bet Now: $3.20) is sneaky flying for Melissa Kelly and I think has to be rated as one of the leading chances. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m when on speed throughout and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite see it through and was nabbed late by Geriatrix. Racing really well and that form reads strong for a race like this.

1 Hollywood North (Bet Now: $21.00) is capable with his best. He ran behind Geriatrix three weeks back at Eagle Farm when getting into a decent enough spot in the run but couldn’t finish the race off and was a bit on the plain side behind the Kiwi raider. Back a bit in overall depth I feel and his best is more than good enough.

6 Show Me Mercy (Bet Now: $26.00) hasn’t been too bad in two runs this time in and should appreciate a rise to 1350m. He ran a fortnight back in the QLD Day at Eagle Farm over 1200m. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a factor, but his finale was quite good and his late splits were encouraging. Hard fit now and up to 1350m, can settle closer, dangerous.

Keen to see how 8 Miss Aria (Bet Now: $4.60) goes for Danny O’Brien. Her last couple of wins in Melbourne have been outstanding, especially at Sandown last time where she gave them a start, a beating, and clocked outstanding late splits in winning. The way she attacks the line, 1600m should be fine, she has change up speed and is the fresh blood.

12 Fortuneer (Bet Now: $11.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for O’Dea/Hoysted. This filly ran two weeks back in the QLD Day where I was quite keen on her chances and while she loomed to win, I thought she had her chance and just felt the pinch late when fourth to Ostraka. Hard fit now, 1350m is okay and her best is good enough.

He will have to carry topweight but am I missing something with 1 Luncies (Bet Now: $3.50)? Wet tracks his two runs back but has kept finding the line, the latest behind Just Folk three weeks ago at Eagle Farm over 1800m in the Lord Mayors Cup. Hard fit, 2150m, firmer deck, class edge…so keen on him.

9 Encoder (Bet Now: $21.00) is a three year old but he is a beauty for Lee Freedman and he arguably brings the A1 form. He ran sixth in the Queensland Derby behind Warmonger and yes, beaten double digit lengths, but the Blinkers went back on and he kept finding the line in a good effort. If he runs up to that here, he’ll go close.

12 Nikau Spur (Bet Now: $14.00) is racing like he will appreciate a rise to 2150m. Team Geran trained gelding that ran two weeks back in a strong 90 at Eagle Farm over 1800m where he got off the speed, worse than midfield, and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat behind Princess Rhaenys. Like him up in trip and his best is good enough to be a threat at odds.

I am going to take a gamble on 3 Blaze A Trail (Bet Now: $8.00) to being ready. I say ready because Blinkers go on first up, which to me just screams of intent. The other factor that needs to be ticked off is the track. Soft 5 currently but the forecast is for fine weather for the rest of the week, so ideally, this track can dry out and get to Good4. His trial work has been more than encouraging and last time Blinkers went on, he bolted up in the Mildura Cup.

14 Fancify (Bet Now: $6.00) is a ripper for Michael Hickmott and should take beating from the front. She has been dominant on speed her past two, firstly at Caulfield before an all the way triumph a fortnight back at Flemington. Not sure what upside there is left but she only has to hold her form and she’ll take beating.

9 At Witz End (Bet Now: $15.00) is a beauty for Daniel Bowen. Thrown in the deep end two weeks back in the Moreton Cup at Eagle Farm and tried hard but just didn’t have the class to go with them late in the piece behind Vilana, who ran third in the Stradbroke last Saturday, so that form does read well and I do like this horse up to 1350m.

16 Junqueira (Bet Now: $12.00) is a great each way gamble at a big price. She did more than enough first up at Scone on shifty ground but what I liked was the tick over trial last week. She absolutely jogged to the line when third to Tamerlane, a Stakes class animal, and what I liked was that she did it without Blinkers. Back on for race day and she is up against Tashi, who she will meet several kg better at the weights from a race in January and that mare is favourite here. Also, she was three lengths off Lady Laguna in the Magic Millions F&M. Dry track, fitter, down in the weights…keen each way.

3 Bezique (Bet Now: $8.00) has a good racing style and is a mare in form. Three weeks between runs for Tony Gollan since contesting the Helen Coughlan when attempting to lead throughout and she gave a decent kick from the front but had no answers late for Chinny Boom. Kept on ice for this and with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.

18 Burning Bell (Bet Now: $20.00) is one I can entertain for wider exotics. Toby Edmonds trained mare that ran over 1200m here two weeks back at Eagle Farm where she got off the speed and while she was never a threat, she kept finding the line in a good effort behind Hidden Wealth. Doubt she wins, but a first four contender.
