Back Me

Throw at the stumps via 3 Shipshape (Bet Now: $20.00) in the opener. He ran over 1500m in the Highway at Rosehill three weeks ago where he ran an honest race from off the speed but was never really a winning factor or threat behind Rematch. Fresh legs and back to 1200m, he should be strong late, he gets the claim and won’t mind a wet track.

Danger

7 Syrian Star (Bet Now: $7.50) looks to have come back in really good order for Rod Northam and should take beating. She resumed in the Highway here two weeks ago and worked home with real purpose late, just missing out on the win when second to Nipotino. That was over 1100m so fitter, up to 1200m, I think it points to her running really well.

Long Shot

13 Tai Lung (Bet Now: $12.00) should appreciate getting back up to 1200m. Game third in a Highway at this track/distance two back before going back to 1100m a fortnight back here and was very good late in the piece behind Nipotino. Extra 100m again is fine and if she can get a drag into the race and be within range, she’ll take beating.

Race 2. (11:35) Petaluma Handicap (72) 1600m

Back Me

5 Sonofdec (Bet Now: $3.00) looks the winner if there is petrol in the tank. He ran three weeks ago in the QLD Derby where he just got too far back in the run and was never a factor…well the rest of the field was never a factor behind Warmonger. The Midway win prior was electric and if he repeats that effort here, I think he wins.

Danger

4 Space Age (Bet Now: $8.50) is a leading contender. Ciaron Maher trained gelding that ran over 1400m here a fortnight back when back off the speed and spotted those in front a tidy start but did work home well enough late in the piece behind War Eternal. Likely spots them a start again but his Irish form over the mile reads very well for a race like this.

Long Shot

2 Kapakiri (Bet Now: $6.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile for Chris Waller. He resumed three weeks ago over 1500m at Rosehill on testing ground where he was specked at odds but like most for the meeting, he just struggled on the wet ground and couldn’t pick up late in the piece behind Franz Josef. Better for the run, firmer deck, up in trip, he can win.

Race 3. (12:10) Midway Handicap (72) 1600m

Back Me

I am convinced that 5 Dimaggio (Bet Now: $10.00) is flying for Kim Waugh and with a more positive ride, he’ll take beating. He ran in the Midway two weeks ago here when back where he got back off the speed and was off the bit early but he ran through the pain barrier and kept finding the line in a really good effort behind Decadent Tale. Just want him ridden with more intent and he’ll be hard to get past.

Danger

11 November Falls (Bet Now: $2.40) is racing really well for Mitch Beer. She has been runner up her past two, both in Midways. Latest being a fortnight back when attempting to lead throughout and giving a decent kick but couldn’t quite see it through when second to Decadent Tale. Right racing style and will give herself every chance.

Long Shot

Gee 2 Kiss Sum (Bet Now: $23.00) won’t know himself in a Midway. At his best, he is a Stakes class animal. He ran in a solid 78 two weeks back here and was very good from near last on the turn behind War Eternal. Big time drop in grade/depth for him, I think he’s back on track and he only has to run up to recent runs to be going close.

Race 4. (12:45) Racing For Good July 13 Handicap (78) 1800m

Back Me

4 Mascaret (Bet Now: $4.20) doesn’t win out of turn but I think she has returned in pretty good order and should take beating. She ran over the mile here two weeks ago where she got back to near last in the run and made up ground nicely without threatening behind Bright Red. Fitter and up to 1800m, I think it all points to her running well.

Danger

9 One Aye (Bet Now: $21.00) should love the rise to 1800m. Joseph/Jones trained mare that ran a narrow second to Bright Red a fortnight back. She launched late from the back and tried her guts out but just couldn’t quite get there, finishing a narrow second. Tick over trial on Friday was quite good, she’s fit, in form…appeals.

Long Shot

10 Galaxy Belle (Bet Now: $46.00) has had a couple of runs at the mile now and is racing like she will appreciate 1800m. Latest run was behind Bright Red two weeks back here where she got to near last in the run and did make up minor headway but was never really threatening. Like her up in trip and firmer deck, she is a knockout hope.

Race 5. (13:20) James Squire Handicap (72) 1300m

Back Me

8 Kerguelen (Bet Now: $1.55) for me. Talented animal for James Cummings that has been kept on ice since a debut win at Kembla where he won by nearly ten lengths in what was pretty much a track gallop for him, winning impressively. Tick over trial last week was very good and he just looks loaded with talent. Keen to see how he goes at this level.

Danger

12 Setombe (Bet Now: $7.00) has done little wrong in two runs back for James Cummings. Let down with purpose late to break the maiden status at Hawkesbury before going to Warwick Farm where she tried hard late to pick them up and surged, but just couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second. Doubt she beats the stablemate but runs well regardless.

Long Shot

1 Flying Trapeze (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Gary Portelli trained three year old that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Feb 24 when down the track and outclassed in the Hobartville behind Celestial Legend. He won’t know himself at this level and has trialled up quite nicely in readiness for the return.

Race 6. (13:55) Macquarie St Social Handicap (88) 1800m

Back Me

9 Miracle Spin (Bet Now: $10.00) has been strong in recent runs at the mile and is racing like he will appreciate a rise to 1800m. Latest run was two weeks ago here where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat behind Ruby Flyer. Like him up to 1800m and hard to beat if he can settle closer.

Danger

14 Time Quest (Bet Now: $3.40) is steadily getting better with racing and time for Matty Smith and has earned a crack at Saturday grade after winning at Warwick Farm at the midweeks last time, albeit the win came via the Stewards Room, but the run prior was very good and he has shown signs of improvement. Right down in the weights, he appeals.

Long Shot

2 Bethencourt (Bet Now: $23.00) is somewhat unknown at 1800m but she’s racing as if she will be fine at it. Can make a case to say she should have placed two weeks back but just got badly held up at the wrong time when wanting to get clear and build the revs. Not as effective on dry ground vs wet ground, but she’s flying and can run a positive race.

Race 7. (14:30) TAB Handicap (78) 1000m

Back Me

11 South Of India (Bet Now: $8.00) has done little wrong in a five start career and I am confident he can measure up against this lot. He ran over 1000m last Tuesday at Scone where he was on speed throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten, but he found under pressure and was strong to the line in winning. Good test here, but with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

Danger

10 Dipsy Doodle (Bet Now: $2.60) is a talented filly for James Cummings that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Feb 24 at Rosehill when on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind a Stakes class mare, Shadows Of Love. She sprints well on the fresh side and has looked sharp in trial work.

Long Shot

1 Dehorned Unicorn (Bet Now: $20.00) is an improver for Mark Minervini. First run for the stable came over this track/distance two weeks back behind Fleetwood where he got back and was never really a factor. The wet track is the concern but maps much better this time around and his best is clearly good enough.

Race 8. (15:05) Civic Stakes 1400m

Back Me

4 Strait Acer (Bet Now: $6.50) is the way I am leaning. Ed Cummings trained gelding that tried to force his way into the Stradbroke but couldn’t quite get involved in the BRC Sprint behind Here To Shock. Much better suited at this level, he maps perfect and does have a bit of quality about him. Happy to be in his corner.

Danger

14 Estadio Mestalla (Bet Now: $5.00) has been excellent in two runs this time in for Joe Pride and is one of the hardest to beat. He ran a fortnight back over 1300m here where he took forever to wind into his work but the last 100m or so, he got warm and was good to the line when fourth to Excelladus. Hard fit now and up to 1400m, firmer deck, he appeals.

Long Shot

9 Gravina (Bet Now: $12.00) loves to get his toe in and loves Randwick. He ran in the Excelladus race from two weeks back. He got back in the run and in a race dominated by the front half, he just couldn’t be a winning threat but did make up headway in defeat. Serious weight relief this time around, I am not penning him.

Race 9. (15:45) Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap (88) 1200m

Back Me

3 Iowna Merc (Bet Now: $4.80)…gee he is nearing D-Day and is getting close to joining the Milk Drinker Academy. He looked all over a winner two weeks ago in the Bob Charley when looming but he couldn’t quite get there when second to Mnementh. Third up now and hard fit, back to 88 grade…if he does everything right, he wins…but he’s becoming hard to trust.

Danger

19 Fleetwood (Bet Now: $2.50) is heading in the right direction for James Cummings. Led them a merry dance first up at Warwick Farm before going here a fortnight back where he got into a lovely spot in transit before taking the front and was strong late in winning. If he can stretch his brilliance to 1200m, then they’re cooking with gas.

Long Shot

6 Snowzone (Bet Now: $26.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m. Kris Lees trained gelding that resumed two weeks back in the Bob Charley where he paraded like he may need the run but he found the line well enough in a pleasing return behind Mnementh. Better set up here and with the run under the belt, he is a knockout hope.

Race 10. (16:25) Precise Air Handicap (78) 1400m

Back Me

9 Elouyou (Bet Now: $2.40) on top. Most thought Lane was a bit cute on him in the straight two weeks ago at Flemington. IMO, I thought the horse had every chance and was just run down by a better horse on the day, Georgie Get Mad. I do think though the horse is better with a bunny to chase, so if that eventuates, he’ll take beating I am sure.

Danger

5 Starman (Bet Now: $4.20) doesn’t win out of turn but is honest and should be around the mark. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago in a very similar race. He sat near the speed throughout under McLucas and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite finish the job when third to a nice horse, War Eternal. I think with a patient steer, a bunny to chase, he may be more effective.

Long Shot

3 Storm King (Bet Now: $26.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Ben Brisbourne, he now finds himself with Scott Henley, who trains at Grafton and I dare say may have eyes on the upcoming Carnival there, potentially the South Grafton Cup given it is a Big Dance Qualifier. His best form comes over 2000m but he has trialled up well and loves wet ground, so watch the market.

BEST BET: Race Nine Number 3 Iowna Merc

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 8 Kerguelen

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 5 Dimaggio
