Sporting legends and construction industry leaders raised more than £22,000 for charity at a golf day hosted by subcontractor The P & M Group.
England cricketer David Gower was guest of honour at the event held at the The Vale Golf Club near Pershore in the Vale of Evesham, Worcestershire.
On the course and in an after dinner raffle and auction, attendees raised £22,700 for youth sports and disability charity Lord’s Taverners.
Contributing sponsors were businesses across the supply chain for the design, construction and maintenance of temperature controlled buildings.
This year was the second iteration of Charity Golf Day hosted by Gloucester business The P & M Group.
Group managing director Tony Wall is a long-term supporter of the Lord’s Taverners, having seen first-hand the benefits of the help the charity provides to disadvantaged children.
“What a day it’s been,” he said. “I’m delighted with the amount we’ve raised for this wonderful charity and extremely grateful to our guests, sponsors and donors for their generous gifts of their time and donations.
“I know the business guests here have been delighted to mingle with some of the sporting legends, and to play a round of golf with them is a memory we’ll treasure for a long time.
“Thanks also to the management of this stunning golf course. We all agree that today has been a welcome break from the day-to-day pressures of running and operating a business, so we’ve been happy to have a really good reason to get some time out, to discuss developments in our industry and meanwhile raise some funds for this excellent charity.”
Following the golf, the evening dinner was hosted by Mr Gower, who is President of Lord’s Taverners, with a live charity auction hosted by Richard Madley from BBC’s Bargain Hunt.
Mr Gower said: “This event has raised a huge amount of invaluable funds for young people in the region and helped the charity work towards its goal of positively impacting the lives of young people facing the challenges of inequality.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many of the young people on our cricket programmes, hear how much our life-changing work means to them and what a significant difference it continues to make to participants and their communities. None of that would be possible without the amazing support of companies like the P & M Group, Tony and everyone who has helped deliver a fantastic day. Thank you so much to everyone.”
Other famous faces in attendance were cricketing greats Andy Caddick, Tim Munton, Paul Prichard and Gus Mackay, former rugby international George Chuter, footballer Dean Holdsworth and sports presenter Jonny Gould.
They were joined by Mark Curtin, CEO of Lord’s Taverners, who said: “We are eternally grateful for the long term support of the P & M Group and in particular Tony who is a huge friend of the charity.
“Once again we had a fantastic day and the money raised by everyone will make a life-changing impact on the thousands of young people we support who live with a disability or are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“We want to empower young people to raise their aspirations and reach their potential – none of which would be possible without the generous support of everyone who attended the day and the ongoing partnership with the P & M Group.”
The P & M Group contains composite panel construction specialist ISD Solutions, sister companies PLG Insulations and doors and metal fabricator QuayTherm Manufacturing, as well as a division in Australia and Midlands-based installations specialists Tysoe Holdings. The companies jointly employ some 190 staff, with a combined turnover of around £70m.
