Cranbourne racing tips

Race 2. (12:55) R&C Asphalt Maiden (1600m)

#1 – Akitu @ $3.30

Akitu improved to finish second at Werribee last time out, which is a good form guide.

The three-year-old gelding by Cable Bay was only a half-length behind the winner in a game finish, which adds to our confidence.

It shouldn’t take him long to break maidens.

Race 4. (14:10) The McFletchy Maiden (1200m)

#1 – Delivering @ $3.30

Delivering was right around the mark last preparation with four placings from eight starts.

The three-year-old gelding by Justify ran third at Bendigo two back before tiring at Pakenham, and then he went out for a spell.

He comes off a jumpout win, and that bodes well.

Race 5. (14:45) Reed Cranes & Haulage BM64 (2025m)

#8 – Rezone @ $6.00

Rezone owns two second placings from three starts, and although yet to win, he is good enough to break through.

The three-year-old son of Dundeel ran second at Geelong by only a nose, and a repeat of that effort takes him close.

We’re snapping up the each-way odds available.

Race 6. (15:50) Webbair Handicap (1000m)

#3 – Russian Bobshark @ $3.50

Russian Bobshark won well on debut at Cranbourne before running close enough to the winner at Sandown and Cranbourne.

The three-year-old son of Russian Revolution was only 1.3 lengths behind the winner last start, and he fought gamely to the line.

This is an even field, so include him in horse racing picks.

Scone racing tips

Race 1. (12:50) Shinzo at Coolmore Maiden (1300m)

#3 – Homeland @ $2.30

Homeland ran sixth on debut before improving to finish fourth at Scone, and they don’t often take long to win from this stable.

The three-year-old son of Shalaa had good betting support when racing at $3.60, so the shorter odds here aren’t surprising.

He could start the day with a bang for punters.

Race 2. (13:30) Emirates Park Maiden (900m)

#1 – Here Comes Hogan @ $2.30

Here Comes Hogan showed enough form last preparation to warrant attention here.

The three-year-old son of Shalaa ran third at Gosford on debut, and something similar should see him go close.

His trial form has been impressive, so he looks ready to fire.

Race 4. (14:40) Admire Mars at Arrowfield Maiden (1100m)

#1 – Beauty Edge @ $5.50

Beauty Edge is on debut for Matthew Smith, who always lines up current favourite Eclair Vitality.

The three-year-old son of Hellbent is a $210,000 purchase, and he comes off some tidy trials at Rosehill and Randwick.

It’s an even betting field and he could measure up at each-way odds.

Race 6. (15:50) Select Events BM58 (1300m)

#1 – Senshi @ $4.20

Value is with Senshi, who won well earlier this preparation at Muswellbrook.

The Paul Perry-trained runner has mixed form since, but we liked his second placing at Newcastle two starts back.

Something close to that is enough to see him figure in the finish.
