It sounds too good to be true. A lakeside home in the Adelaide Hills has one of the city’s cheapest price tags, yet comes with access to a swimming pool, kids’ playground with bouncing pillow, a mini golf course and a giant chess board.
The neat two-bedroom cabin at 145A Mount Barker Rd is nestled within a caravan park at picturesque Hahndorf and has an asking price of between $255,000 and $265,000.
Home loan calculations show the property, based on a 15 per cent deposit and interest rates of 6 per cent, would set buyers back around $300 a week in mortgage repayments.

Inside the Adelaide home that could double as a museum
Selling agent Lauren Grant, from Adelaide Hills Real Estate, says interest in the permanent residence has been strong, with potential buyers attracted to the facilities available within the park, as well as the home’s low price point.
“There’s very few homes priced at this level but it is reflective of the fact you are not purchasing any land, it’s just the cabin,’’ Ms Grant says.
“There’s a little bit of garden area if you want to look after it but, if you are not able to or don’t really want to, then the park (owners) will maintain it.
“We’ve had interest from first homeowners, as well as people calling and saying, `I have young kids and I would love to live somewhere that has a pool and a bouncing pillow’.
“It would be perfect for a single person living there. The only limitation to having two people is there’s only one car space – but if you have only one car, or one of you doesn’t drive, then it would definitely suit a couple.’’
Purpose-built for permanent tenancy, the cabin is larger than typical short stay holiday cabins and sits within a group of other permanent cabins in a separate part of the park, providing privacy for residents.
Inside, a modern kitchen, complete with a dishwasher and corner pantry, has plenty of storage and benchspace and forms part of an open plan living and dining area.
The two carpeted bedrooms have built-in robes, with the master bedroom connecting to the bathroom and laundry.
A front deck, with café blinds, provides a relaxing spot to enjoy the park’s green surrounds, which include a communal firepit and a BBQ and camp kitchen.
There’s also walking trails along the park’s lake, a games room and function and convention centres.
“It’s such a neat, cool way to live – you’ve got access to so many amenities without having to look after them,’’ Ms Grant says.
“Obviously you are responsible for the cabin itself but the land it sits on is all maintained by the park owners, who pride themselves in providing an incredible experience.’’
