Doomben racing tips

Race 1. (12:12) Stradbroke Season Maiden (2030m)

#4 – Salamancas

Salamancas is getting close to posting his maiden win following a second placing at Ipswich.

The three-year-old gelding by Sacred Falls gets Ryan Maloney in the saddle, and that helps his chances.

Barrier three is ideal, and punters could get each-way odds on race day.

Race 2. (12:43) Ladbrokes Blackbook 2YO (1200m)

#3 – The Gambling Greek

The Gambling Greek showed good barrier speed to lead throughout at Eagle Farm on debut.

The two-year-old gelding by Russian Revolution won by a narrow margin over Provance, who had been well-backed to win.

We expect him to roll forward again and be tough to hold out.

Race 3. (13:18) Cascade Maiden (1200m)

#2 – Gold Academy

Gold Academy hasn’t been too far away from the mark in two career starts, including a fifth on debut at Wyong.

The three-year-old gelding by Zoustar handled wet conditions at Beaudesert last time out, and he doesn’t need to improve much to win.

Blake Shinn rides, which adds to our confidence.

Race 4. (13:53) World Pool June Handicap (1200m)

#8 – Punch Lane

Punch Lane owns four wins from eight starts overall, and he could make a winning start to this campaign.

The four-year-old son of So You Think has yet to race at Doomben, but having form at Caulfield and Flemington bodes well.

Carrying 54kg is ideal, and he should be right around the mark.

Race 5. (14:28) Stradbroke Calcutta BM68 (1630m)

#9 – Dulcet

Dulcet comes off a win at Ipswich when showing an excellent turn-of-foot, which is always good to see.

The three-year-old gelding by Eminent owns two wins and two placings from seven starts, and being in Chris Waller’s hands is ideal.

Punters should get each-way odds on race day.

Race 6. (15:03) XXXX C5 Handicap (1350m)

#6 – Invahir

Invahir has three wins from his last five starts, and he’s the form runner of the field.

The four-year-old gelding by Invader has yet to race at Doomben, but he’s a professional five-time winner.

It’s not an easy field, but he has upside.

Race 7. (15:38) Sky Racing BM70 (1110m)

#6 – Metalart

Metalart is unbeaten after three starts, and the three-year-old could be heading places.

The son of Better than Ready owns two wins at Doomben, including a win two back when scoring by a length.

He is a good front-running type, and we’re happy to keep backing him until he suffers a defeat.

Race 8. (16:13) Become a BRC Member C1 (1350m)

#8 – Fourandahalf

Fourandahalf won well on debut at Sunshine Coast when paying $9.00, and punters should expect lower odds.

The three-year-old son of Charge Forward comes off a soft trial at Deagon, so he should be well-prepared for his return.

It’s another good ride for Maloney, and we’re happy to include him in selections.
