Gawler racing tips

Race 1. (12:07) Gawler Arms Hotel Maiden (1200m)

#3 – Grint @ $4.50

Grint comes off consecutive placings at Morphettville, which is good enough form for this level of racing.

The three-year-old gelding by Winning Rupert has yet to race at Gawler, but it’s a track he should enjoy racing at.

Look for his odds to firm on race day.

Race 2. (12:42) LJ Hooker Gawler BM78 (1700m)

#5 – Aspen Colorado @ $3.70

Aspen Colorado comes off a second placing at Bendigo, and we fancy Victorian form in Adelaide.

The six-year-old son of Sea the Moon is only a three-time winner, but he’s much better than that.

We’re happy to give him another chance with only 55.5kg on his back.

Race 3. (13:17) Holdfast Insurance Brokers 0MW (1700m)

#2 – Chambers Bay @ $1.85

Chambers Bay is a two-time winner from his last four starts, including a win at Gawler last time out.

The four-year-old son of Spieth is unbeaten in two starts on the track, so he’s a course specialist with plenty of upside.

Getting the inside draw adds to his advantage.

Race 4. (13:52) Kingsford Hotel BM68 (1500m)

#2 – Hard Prince @ $3.90

Hard Prince owns a win and three placings from eight starts, including a second placing at his only start at Gawler.

The three-year-old son of All Too Hard gets all favours off the inside draw, and he doesn’t know how to run a bad race.

He owns a good enough turn-of-foot to figure in the finish.

Race 5. (14:27) Adelaide Plains Bloodstock Handicap (1700m)

#3 – Pointless Praise @ $4.00

Pointless Praise needed the fresh up run at Morphettville, and we expect improvement now.

The four-year-old son of Pariah owns two wins from 12 starts, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets back to winning form.

The odds are worth including in horse racing picks.

Race 6. (15:07) Irongate Australia BM78 (1200m)

#5 – Klabel @ $2.60

Klabel comes off a win at Murray Bridge by a half-length, and it came in this grade.

The four-year-old son of Vadamos is never too far away from the prize with four wins and four placings from 13 starts.

Barrier four is ideal and punters shouldn’t leave him out of selections.

Race 7. (15:42) Happy 60th Esme Watson Handicap (2100m)

#2 – Zibulon @ $6.00

Zibulon is a former French runner who won at Warrnambool last time out, which is a good form guide.

The four-year-old is only a one-time winner from eight starts, but we’re not surprised his form turned around in Australia.

This race looks well within his reach.

Race 8. (16:22) Coopers Brewery Lager BM68 (1500m)

#7 – Maracourt @ $3.10

Maracourt comes off three consecutive second placings, and although backed and beaten, he’s worth sticking with.

The five-year-old son of Hampton Court has yet to race on the track, but Gawler is a course that should suit his running style.

We’re prepared to give him another chance at the odds.

Race 9. (17:00) Matrix Solar Solutions Handicap (1200m)

#2 – Braveman’sgame @ $7.00

Drawing barrier 18 won’t help the gelding, but he’s a talented type in the making.

The four-year-old son of Time Test scored consecutive wins last preparation at Morphettville, and he comes off a tidy trial placing.

He should be better for the recent spell, so expect a fine fresh up effort.
