Ballarat racing tips

Race 1. (13:30) Global Turf Maiden (1400m)

#4 – Layin’ Up @ $2.40

Layin’ Up is getting close to a win after consecutive placings, including a second placing at Ballarat last time out.

The three-year-old filly by Cable Bay was only a half-length behind the winner, so the form checks out.

After opening at $2.25, her odds have drifted, but they’re worth taking.

Race 3. (14:30) Hertz Ballarat Maiden (1100m)

#8 – Western Conqueror @ $2.70

Western Conqueror resumes for a new campaign after showing solid enough form last preparation.

The two-year-old gelding by Unite and Conquer ran fourth at Sandown before finishing sixth at Pakenham.

His jumpout form has been solid enough, so follow the money.

Race 5. (15:30) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1500m)

#9 – Nordic @ $5.00

After opening at $7.00, most of the money has come for Nordic at $5.00.

The Andrew Noblet-trained gelding is only a one-time winner from 13 starts, but the win came at Ballarat.

He’s also a better runner on synthetic tracks, so take the each-way odds.

Race 7. (16:30) Hygain Winners Choice BM58 (1200m)

#6 – Golden Estrella @ $2.70

Golden Estrella didn’t fire at Wangaratta last time out, but that run was too bad to be true.

The four-year-old mare by Zoustar looked much better when running second at Cranbourne and Pakenham, which is a good form guide.

Barrier three adds to her appeal, so she should be tough to beat.

Muswellbrook racing tips

Race 2. (12:55) Racing at Muswellbrook Handicap (1000m)

#3 – Bullfighter @ $3.00

Bullfighter is on debut for the Waterhouse/Bott stable following a trial win at Randwick.

The two-year-old son of Capitalist won a trial by two lengths, so he clearly has speed to burn, which is a good sign.

Getting barrier two is ideal, and the odds are likely to shorten.

Race 3. (13:35) Kosciuszko Tickets on Sale Maiden (1000m)

#12 – Vercelli @ $2.50

Vercelli has firmed in betting markets following a fourth on debut at Tamworth.

The three-year-old filly by Maurice is bred to enjoy racing under her belt, and her recent trial at Muswellbrook was solid.

Her odds keep shortening, so take the $2.50 before it firms.

Race 5. (14:45) Muswellbrook Steel Supplies Maiden (1450m)

#9 – Rampazetto @ $2.80

Rampazetto is better for two runs back from a spell, including a fourth at Hawkesbury last time out.

The two-year-old colt by Written By was only 2.3 lengths behind the winner, and he should find this field slightly easier.

He’s another well-backed runner at Muswellbrook, so follow the money.

Race 7. (15:55) Horsepower BM66 (1280m)

#10 – Fourth Spargo @ $2.30

Looking to score an overdue win is Fourth Spargo, who won on debut before adding three placings from her next four starts.

The daughter of Bon Hoffa ran second at Wyong last start, which was a good form reversal after running eighth at Scone.

This looks like a winnable race, so punters should be confident.
