If it was Carmy’s luscious locks and white t-shirts that ruled the first two seasons of “The Bear,” its Sydney’s multitude of bandanas that have dominated the third season, which arrived on Hulu last week.
While the hit FX series is far from a fashion-centric show, it can be hard not to become entranced with the characters’ back-of-the-house clothing as they scream orders, plate food or, in Carmy’s case, disassociate from the restaurant’s walk-in freezer.
After Carmy gifted Sydney with that headline-making Thom Browne apron last season, it was no question that she would continue to be the most fashionable character going into the third installment. But as any professional chef knows, service-worker fashion has to be, first and foremost, functional, which is why it makes sense that Sydney’s way of showing her personal style in the kitchen is through her many colorful and playfully patterned bandanas. Aside from adding flare to her ensembles, they keep her hair out of her face while she preps her Michelin-worthy meals.
After arriving on Hulu last week, the third season of “The Bear” hit 5.4 million views in four days, marking the streamer’s biggest scripted TV premiere ever. However, despite the impressive numbers, the new season also premiered to surprisingly mixed reviews, with Variety TV critic Alison Herman panning the new season as “an aimless season that relies too heavily on star power.”
But if you’re curious to see for yourself, all three seasons are now available to stream on Hulu.
