Personal tensions between two Today show contributors simmered to the surface on air this week, leaving the hosts visibly uncomfortable.
A dispute over a parking space at Channel Nine’s North Sydney headquarters led to a stand-off between money expert Effie Zahos and tech guru Trevor Long.
Host Karl Stefanovic expressed concern for the pair’s professional relationship during Thursday’s live broadcast.
‘Karl, I really didn’t want to talk about this on national TV… I was mortified this morning,’ Effie began.
‘Basically, Trevor, I would like you to move that thing you call a car out of my car space,’ she added.
The unexpected confrontation left co-host Sarah Abo stunned: ‘That took a turn, I wasn’t expecting that, Karlos,’ she remarked.
Effie continued: ‘I’m away for only three days and I drive in this morning to the Channel Nine car park and there is Trevor’s car.’
The saga took another turn on Friday when Trevor posted a video on Instagram in response to Effie calling him a car spot thief.
In the clip, the tech expert is seen driving into a car space with a reserved sign bearing his name.
‘Sorry, what’s this, Effie?’ he said, pointing to the sign.
‘Effie, it’s totally fine, you can park here next week, all week, I’m gonna be in Paris so [it’s] all yours,’ he boasted.
He didn’t stop there, adding, ‘Also, that thing I call a car is fully electric. So, actually, financially, it’s a very good decision because it saves money on running costs year on year. A little advice for you – go electric.’
Effie is a regular money expert on the Nine breakfast show and on radio across Australia, offering insight and advice on how Aussies can make the most of their money.
The finance commentator is also the editor of Money, Australia’s longest-running personal finance magazine.
Meanwhile, Long is the Nine Network’s go-to tech expert, sharing news, insight and commentary on consumer technology.
He is also an editor and podcaster for online men’s lifestyle magazine EFTM.
