Race 1. (12:07) Gawler Arms Hotel Mdn Plate 1200m

Back Me

10 Halliwell (Bet Now: $2.50) for me in what looks a pretty solid maiden. Michael Hickmott trained filly that debuted over 1050m at Morphettville two weeks ago where she got back in the run but saved ground nearer the inside and drove hard late when running second to impressive winner Richie D’Amour. Good improvement to come off that you’d imagine and up to 1200m, he takes beating.

Danger

3 Grint (Bet Now: $4.60) has had a few chances to break the maiden status but that said, he’s racing well and is nearing a win. He looked the winner at Morphetville a fortnight back but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to Richie D’Amour. Like him up to 1200m and hopefully can get a more economical run in transit.

Long Shot

9 Esticon (Bet Now: $12.00) hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a spell for Ryan Balfour. Did more than enough fresh over 1100m before coming back to 1050m at Morphettville when back and making up some ground without threatening behind Richie D’Amour. Up to 1200m, hard fit, not dismissing her.

Race 2. (12:42) Lj Hooker Gawler/Barossa (Bm78) 1700m

Back Me

5 Aspen Colorado (Bet Now: $3.60) looks to pick himself I feel. Lindsey Smith trained gelding that brings decent Victorian form, his latest run being over the mile at Bendigo when a game second to a proven Saturday metro horse in New York Hurricane. I think he only has to hold his form, with a kind map, and I think he’s too good for these.

Danger

8 Bonnie Gangster (Bet Now: $14.00) has come back in good order and rates highly for me against this lot despite the class/depth rise. She ran over 1800m two weeks ago at Morphettville where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never threatening, she kept finding the line and was good in defeat behind Tippa. Has run well at Gawler previously, in form, hard to beat I say.

Long Shot

6 Shakespeare (Bet Now: $20.00) is a Team Jolly trained stayer that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since April 20 when back and closing off well when close up in defeat behind Victorian raider Hoops. 1800m fresh signals some form of intent and his trial work has been encouraging. Watch the market.

Race 3. (13:17) Holdfast Insurance Brokers (Rs0mw) 1700m

Back Me

2 Chambers Bay (Bet Now: $1.85) is 2/2 at Gawler and he looks to have found a very winnable race to make it 3/3. He was a dominant winner over 1500m here last time, sitting on speed throughout and was trucking in the run before being clicked up and away he went to win quite comfortably. Lands near the front here and only has to hold his form I think to be winning again.

Danger

4 Reservoir Dog (Bet Now: $3.30) should love the rise in distance for Clarken/O’Shea. This gelding ran over 1500m here last time where he gave them a start and a beating, producing a sustained run from of the speed to wear down Wine Barron and finish best. He is a winner at 2000m so 1700m suits. Commands respect.

Long Shot

1 I Need A Drink (Bet Now: $16.00) is three weeks between runs for Dunn/Bishop since racing over the mile at Murray Bridge when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly, finishing down the track behind Favourite Child. Like the drop in trip for her…I doubt she wins, but her best can see her run top four.

Race 4. (13:52) Kingsford Hotel (Bm68) 1500m

Back Me

2 Hard Prince (Bet Now: $4.00) on top for me. Team Jolly trained gelding that ran over this trip two weeks ago at Morphettville where I thought he was given a 12/10 steer by Opperman and presented to win the race but just found one better, just, in Bona Fide Star. Hard to knock the way he’s racing and this doesn’t appear to be an overly deep contest.

Danger

6 Cherokee Miss (Bet Now: $8.50) hasn’t really set the world on fire in her 14 start career but this isn’t a deep race and she did find positive form last time. She ran third to Bona Fide Star where she got back, with cover, and worked home well enough but couldn’t quite get the win. If she can build off that, she’s a threat for sure.

Long Shot

8 Our Divinyl (Bet Now: $5.00) comes back to her own age after taking on the older horses at this track/distance last time when off the speed and kept chasing but was safely held on the line when third to Chambers Bay. Back to her own age, hard fit and racing well, she commands respect.

Race 5. (14:27) Adelaide Plains Bloodstock Hcp (62) 1700m

Back Me

1 Chipson (Bet Now: $2.70) on top for me in what looks an even contest. This gelding ran two weeks ago at Morphettville behind Willybeafactor where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he found the line and was quite good in defeat. Has the potential to settle much closer and gets in really well after the claim.

Danger

9 Midnight Rush (Bet Now: $11.00) is another that is a long time between wins but is going well enough to be around the mark once again, which was the case over 1500m at this track last time when getting a decent run in transit near the speed and tried hard but had no answers late for Chambers Bay. Racing well and is a definite threat.

Long Shot

10 Frankie’s Me Dad (Bet Now: $51.00) is an improver at odds for Michael Hickmott. This girl had her first run for the stable over 1500m here when back and wide throughout and was never a factor behind Chambers Bay. Gets a much better set up this time around and her best is more than good enough to give this a shake.

Race 6. (15:07) Irongate Australia (Bm78) 1200m

Back Me

5 Klabel (Bet Now: $2.25) has come back in good order for Team Jolly. Did a stack of work fresh and stuck on really well in defeat behind stablemate Keep Reading before going to Murray Bridge three weeks ago where he got into a dream spot behind the speed before angling clear and knuckled down best to win. Good improvement to come, he’s hard to beat.

Danger

6 Sweet Baby Boom (Bet Now: $4.50) has done little wrong since joining Clarken/O’Shea and rates highly for me. She ran over 1200m at Morphettville a fortnight back when put into a decent spot near the speed, with cover, and presented to win the race but couldn’t quite finish the job when a close up third to stablemate Episodic. Think she only has to hold her form to be around the mark.

Long Shot

9 Silent Don (Bet Now: $46.00) is a Clarken/O’Shea trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since September 2 over 1800m at Morphettville when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Flight Deck. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and his trial work has been encouraging.

Race 7. (15:42) Happy 60Th Esme Watson Hcp (62) 2100m

Back Me

3 A Touch Frosty (Bet Now: $5.50) is the one for me. Peter Hardacre trained gelding that ran over this trip at Mount Gambier last time where he got into a decent spot just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the job when third to Imposing Suspect. He has run well at Gawler previously and is racing like 2100m suits. Hard to beat.

Danger

4 Esky (Bet Now: $7.00) should appreciate a rise back up in trip for the Bain/Taylor camp. He was a strong winner over 2050m at Strathalbyn before going to 1500m here after a four week break and just looked in need of the run behind Chambers Bay. Better for the run under the belt, rises in trip and this isn’t a deep contest.

Long Shot

11 Master Of Illusion (Bet Now: $17.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. First run for Grant Young came over 1700m here where he got back in the run and made up solid headway but was never really threatening behind Rockbarton Road. His best is good enough to be a threat here.

Race 8. (16:22) Coopers Brewery Australian Lager (Bm68) 1500m

Back Me

9 Billie Bronx (Bet Now: $7.00) has to be given another look. Peter Hardacre trained mare that resumed three weeks ago at Murray Bridge when kept quite safe in betting and seemingly had every chance but didn’t fire when asked and was terrible behind Riverplate. Her form last prep was very good and despite the gate, I think she has enough credits in the bank to get another look.

Danger

6 Favourite Child (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Clarken/O’Shea trained mare that is racing in just about career best form at the moment. She is three weeks between runs since an all the way win at Tamworth. Credit to her, she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the win. Good racing style, hard fit and in form, she appeals.

Long Shot

7 Maracourt (Bet Now: $3.10) is racing really well without winning for Michael Hickmott. Market said he was a good thing at Morphettville a fortnight back and he looked all over the winner when he dashed to the front but was nabbed late by Victorian raider Soaring Eagle. He is becoming hard to trust, but surely a win is near for him?

Race 9. (17:00) Matrix Solar Solutions Hcp (66) 1200m

Back Me

6 Everglade (Bet Now: $4.60) looks like she is enjoying life under the care of Bain/Taylor. This mare was met with market support when resuming over 900m at Murray Bridge when on speed throughout and trucking before being clicked up by Holder and away she went for a dominant win. 1200m no issue, good racing style, rates highly.

Danger

5 Sportsbeat (Bet Now: $7.50) has to be given another look. He was a strong winner over 1100m at Morphettville two back before going to the same track/distance a fortnight back where he got back to near last in the run and was never a factor when down the track behind The Hass. Off the win start prior, he can take this out.

Long Shot

10 Kong (Bet Now: $11.00) is racing for the third Saturday on the bounce so you’d like to think that fitness is an issue for him. He ran last Saturday on the Parks track and was quite good in defeat from the back when fourth to Magic Field. Track/distance winner, can settle much closer and like him up to 1200m.

BEST BET: Race Two Number 5 Aspen Colorado

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 10 Halliwell

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 9 Billie Bronx
