With “Gladiator II” finishing up post-production, filmmaker Ridley Scott isn’t taking a break with the director expected to jump to his Bee Gees biopic next.
The 86-year-old filmmaker was also reportedly working on a dark western movie and had been location scouting and storyboarding the film late last year.
Then, last weekend, costume designer Janty Yates revealed Scott had scrapped the project for the time being as it was a snow-bound film and Scott’s scheduling meant they had to shoot mid-summer. She also confirmed it was titled “Freewalkers”.
Now further details have emerged about what the film was about over at World of Reel. Turns out the project is NOT the other western Scott was linked to, namely the Drew Goddard-penned “Wraiths of the Broken Land” based on the novel by S. Craig Zahler.
Instead, “Freewalkers” is a quite different period tale set in the snowy Midwest. The tale follows a Native American girl who “becomes infected with measles and has to battle the storms, and violent men, to get cured.”
Scott has previously described the project as “a f—ing savage Western,” with a script “like perfectly distilled liquor”. He added that he already had two stars lined up to join him with one of them potentially being Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone.
Scott already has multiple other films lined up as well including “BOMB,” “Queen and Country” and “Big Dogs” so it’s not clear if he will ever get back around to this film.
