Overview
Council is partnering with the State and Federal government to construct a new stadium at the existing Bardia Avenue site that will house 10 basketball courts and the first dedicated community gymnastics space in Frankston City.
These state-of-the-art district facilities will cater for two of Frankston City’s fastest growing sports, enabling increasing participation among young girls and women and people with a disability.
The new-look Frankston Basketball and Gymnastics Stadium will feature:
- A ten (10) court basketball stadium, with six new courts and four existing courts upgraded;
- A dedicated 1000 sqm gymnastics hall and training pit;
- Upgraded change rooms;
- A function room and spectator viewing area over the gymnastics hall; and
- Improved entrances and foyer area.
Timelines
The project is expected to progress within these indicative timelines, which are subject to change depends on project impacts (such as weather, approvals etc):
- Completed 2021 – Feasibility Study
- Completed 2022 – Advocacy
- Underway, October – December 2023 – Tender for detailed design
- Late 2024 – Tender for construction
- Mid 2025 – Construction to commence
- Late 2026 – Construction to be completed

The project will be supported by the new multi-level Kananook commuter car park on Council-owned land adjacent to the Stadium. With more than 300 car spaces for recreation patrons to utilising outside of peak commute times.
