The Boomers journey to the Paris 2024 Olympics is locked in with a massive Ford BALLIN’24 Melbourne series and a trip to Abu Dhabi for the USA Basketball Showcase.
Australia will face Team China on home soil in Melbourne for the Ford BALLIN’24 series on 2 & 4 July before heading to Abu Dhabi for a showcase against the USA on 15 July and Serbia on the 16 July.
Head Coach Brian Goorjian is looking for iron to sharpen iron in this blockbuster schedule of world class opponents.
“We needed to get a feel for a world class standard and this pre-Olympics schedule will set the tone,” said Brian Goorjian.
“The BALLIN’24 series will be the perfect foundation for our guys, not only for the level of intensity that we expect from China but also the camaraderie and support that they will gain from the hometown crowd.”
The Boomers will have a short break, set themselves before the journey abroad begins.
“We will use the time in the interim to refine and allow our guys to connect. They cross paths every now and then, but this will be one of those unique moments where we can allow them to spend time with each other,” said Goorjian.
“We then get to measure our work against a stacked USA team and a European powerhouse in Serbia in Abu Dhabi. It will be an important window for the team to get into a rhythm.”
The Boomers will also be sending a squad of up-and-coming stars to face Japan for the Nissay Cup 2024 on June 22 and 23. A diversified list of next up talent and breakthrough players will take the court in an alternating schedule alongside the Opals in Sapporo.
“This collaboration with the Japan Basketball Association will allow for depth to Basketball Australia’s peak period of international experience,” said Jason Smith, Basketball Australia Executive General Manager of High Performance.
“We are always mindful of sustaining a strong development pathway for players to excel and develop through a multitude of ways. The ability to maintain a long-term vision is essential for the future of our players and the performance of Basketball Australia’s national teams.”
