The remaining eight women’s third-round contests were completed on Day 6 of Wimbledon. This article overviews who looked good, which players found things more difficult, and then chooses the best match of the day. French Open champion Iga Swiatek and 2022 Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina were among the players in action.
Wimbledon Day 6 Women’s Recap
Who Looked Good
Elina Svitolina played excellently to knock out the two-time runner-up at SW19 Ons Jabeur. The Ukrainian prevailed 6-1, 7-6. Her performance in the first set was particularly outstanding. Svitolina hit ten winners and only leaked two unforced errors. Jabeur rallied in the second set, but it was not enough to force a decider.
2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko was also in great form at Wimbledon. She swept aside Bernarda Pera 6-1 6-3. Ostapenko broke six times during a very dominant performance. Pera, who had never won a match at the event until this year, can still be proud of her run to the third round.
Wang Xinyu backed up her upset against Jessica Pegula by progressing to the fourth round. The Chinese player overcame losing the first set and a passionate home crowd to see off Harriet Dart 2-6 7-5 6-3. A crucial moment came at 3-1 to Dart in the third set when she missed a simple shot at the net to go 4-1 up. From there, Wang began to dominate the match.
Barbora Krejcikova impressed again during her third round against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. However, the contest did end, unfortunately, when the Spaniard retired with an injury with the score at 6-0 4-3 to Krejcikova. Despite this, the Czech had been the better player throughout the match and almost certainly would have gone on to win anyway.
Danielle Collins won a rain-delayed match against Beatriz Haddad Maia. After being 0-4 down before the first rain delay, Collins then won nine matches in a row before rain arrived again after the Brazilian had fought back to 3-3 in the second set. The American wrapped up the match 6-4 6-4 after play resumed again.

Who Looked Bad
2018 Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki had a very tough day on Court 1. She was heavily defeated 0-6 1-6 by Elena Rybakina. Although she was the underdog against the former champion, the Danish veteran did not compete as well as she normally does. That allowed Rybakina to win more comfortably than she would have expected.
Liudmila Samsonova also did not perform as she would have expected. Although her 6-7 2-6 loss to Anna Kalinskaya was not a very heavy defeat, the Russian struggled throughout the entire match. She only made 36% of her first-serves, and Kalinskaya did not need to be near her best to move into the fourth-round.

Match of the Day
The best women’s match on Day 6 of Wimbledon was also the biggest shock. Iga Swiatek was stunned by an inspired Yulia Putintseva on Court 1. Swiatek, who was looking to take the next step on grass, looked in control after the first set. The world No. 1 served very well to take the set 6-3, after breaking in the sixth game. However, the contest turned suddenly after that. Putintseva began to play utterly sublime tennis. This included a mixture of great returns, baseline winners, short slices and drop shots. Swiatek was not playing overly badly, but she had no answer to Putinsteva’s brilliance. The Kazakhstani only dropped three games in the last two sets to seal an incredible 3-6 6-1 6-2 triumph.
