Salem: A power loom weaver from Chinna Manali in Salem district died by suicide on Saturday after he lost more than 5 lakh in online gambling.P Angamuthu, 42, of Chinna Manali, lost more than 5 lakh in online rummy, Edappadi police said.“He recently lost Rs50,000 after selling his wife’s mangal sutra. He became depressed and consumed cow dung on Thursday night,” police said.His family members rushed him to a nearby private hospital in Edappadi. He was referred to another private hospital in Salem after his health condition deteriorated. “However, he died on Saturday night,” police said.PMK president and Rajya Sabha MP Anbumani Ramadoss expressed his condolences over the incident and urged the state government to implement measures to ban online gambling to avoid more deaths.Ramadoss expressed his grief over the loss of 14 lives owing to online gambling, with seven of them occurring in the past two months.
