A pair of Guzman y Gomez customers have been called out for letting their dog sit on their table as they tucked into their food.

The Sydney couple were recently photographed enjoying their meal in the city’s inner west as their dog sat at the counter, where other people would later eat.

Another customer was ‘horrified’ ‘ and shared the damning scene on Reddit

‘I love dogs, but what kind of an idiot puts their dog on a table where people eat?’ one person asked.

‘Dog owner here. That’s moronic. I do not want canine a**hole germs in my burrito, por favor,’ another said.

A Guzman y Gomez spokesperson told FEMAIL: ‘GYG’s Shift Leader asked the guest to take the dog off the bench (and out of the restaurant) as soon as they saw this occurring. It appears another guest took a photo prior to this occurring.

‘GYG’s policy is in line with NSW Food Authority guidelines: pet dogs are not allowed in restaurant, pet dogs may be allowed in outdoor dining areas only at the discretion of the business, and live animals are not permitted in areas where food is handled.

‘Assistance animals (such as service dogs) must be allowed in areas used by customers. It’s disappointing that a guest chose to do this however the team at GYG followed our policies as soon as they were aware.’

Other Australians slammed dog owners who treat their pets like humans instead of animals.

‘Dog people are insane around here,’ a man said. ‘It’s overwhelming, every time I’m in Newtown I see dogs in places you’d least expect to.’

‘That’s f**ked. Your dog doesn’t need to go everywhere with you,’ a woman wrote.

‘I don’t hate dogs. But you shouldn’t be able to take them wherever you want,’ another echoed.

‘Your dog isn’t going to get anxiety because you didn’t take them to Guzman y Gomez,’ one added.

One woman shared a list of reasons it’s unsafe to take dogs into restaurants.

‘Dogs (aside from service dogs obviously) aren’t and shouldn’t be allowed everywhere because they can be unpredictable for a multitude of reasons, can be a liability, and end up easily ruining another stranger’s dining experience despite how their humans conduct themselves.

‘Imagine trying to eat while a nearby dog accidentally takes a s*** on the floor or a highly allergic person turning up for a reservation and having to leave.

‘I love animals as much as the next person, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not about to take my cat to dinner because I’m going miss her or whatever. I’m an adult that understands that it’s not reasonable or considerate.’
