Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s informal talks in the former’s residence were the highlight of the Indian leader’s two-day visit to Moscow. From discussions over tea and strolling through horse stables, Putin left no stone unturned to make his guest’s visit memorable.

Putin even took PM Modi on a golf cart ride in Novo Ogoryovo, Putin’s residence.

While Putin took the driver’s seat, Modi sat in the passenger’s seat as both leaders talked through the drive.

PM Modi landed in Moscow on Monday following which Putin invited the Indian leader to his private residence. Probably the most noteworthy decision that came out of the informal meeting between Modi and Putin was the freeing of Indian nationals working in the Russian Army.

India has been flagging the issue of Indian nationals getting duped in Russia where they are offered lucrative jobs or educational prospects only to find themselves on the battlefield.

In his first trip since the start of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, Modi travelled to Russia to hold summit talks with Putin on Tuesday – a visit that is being seen as having a wider geopolitical context and signalling.

The two leaders will hold wide-ranging talks at the 22nd India-Russia annual summit on Tuesday that is largely being seen in the context of wider geopolitical turmoil arising out of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The focus of the 22nd India-Russia annual summit is likely to be boosting bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy, security, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges. The Ukraine conflict is set to figure in the discussions.
