SENTrack’s Sam Hyland is in complete agreement with Gai Waterhouse’s comments surrounding the constant abandonment of race meetings and trials.
Waterhouse took to X (Twitter) to express her frustration, saying the racing industry needs to toughen up and stop cancelling meetings at the cost of those in the industry.
“What has gone wrong with racing? Rain – and the races/trials are postponed which in every case means abandoned,” Waterhouse said.
“Heavy tracks are safer than every other type, they go slower and there are less accidents.
“They race in Europe and New Zealand on much heavier tracks.
“The cost of abandoned meetings is very real – money out of all our pockets.
“It is winter.
“We have all become mindless marshmallows. Racing should toughen up.”
Hyland concurs with what Waterhouse is saying, with the former jockey calling the current state of racing as “complete madness”.
“Gai, I don’t know if you’ve been tuning into SEN for the last week but there you go!,” Hyland said.
“Good on Gai for saying that, I was on SEN Queensland on Monday morning and I dead set tee’d off at the fact that Sunshine Coast got called off on Saturday after four races.
“You know what, someone has to say it and call this out because it’s complete rubbish.
“Why are all these race meetings getting called off? It’s complete madness and there’s one of the greatest trainers going around in Gai Waterhouse saying the same thing.
“Everybody should listen to Gai and jump on board.
“It’s just got to the point of complete madness, it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Tuesday’s scheduled Muswellbrook meeting was called off due to the track being deemed “unsuitable” for racing.
