Petracca set for a return ahead of a chance at harness racing riches
The Emma Stewart-trained horse is set to make his return to the track after an extended stint on the sidelines.
The four-year-olds last run was on the 14th of October,2023 in the Group 1, Victoria Derby. Zavitsanos, is confident his pacer is ready for a return.
“He trialled the other week and is ready to race, he should be back in the next week or so,” Zavitsanos said. “From all reports he is looking good, I am expecting him to go well.
“We will give him a couple of race starts and see where he is at.”
The bay horse out of Lovelist suffered an injury that has kept him ruled out for over 250 days.
“He got a knock on his leg which was nothing major, just a small bruise,” he said.” I decided to miss all the big ones like the Chariots and the Miracle Mile, just to focus on The Eureka.”
Zavitsanos, is a slot holder for the world’s richest harness race, the $2.1million TAB Eureka, a potential Menangle trip could be on the cards for the son by Captaintreacherous.
“I want to give him (Petracca) a couple of starts and if he comes up how I think, he will more than likely (go to The Eureka),” he said.
“I have another one in Oliver Dan and High Above who also might go. I will make a decision early next month.”
The 2024 TAB Eureka will be run at Menangle on September 7.
