IND-W vs SA-W 2024: India beat South Africa by 10 wickets to draw series 1-1

The Indian women’s cricket team beat South Africa by 10 wickets in the final match of the 2024 women’s T20 series against South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.

With the second T20 match getting washed out on Sunday, the series finished level at 1-1.

Indian T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl first. Pooja Vastrakar took four wickets while Radha Yadav registered a spell of 3/6 to help bundle out the visitors for just 84 runs. Tazmin Brits (20) was the highest scorer for the South Africa women’s cricket team.

In reply, openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma remained unbeaten and helped India reach the target in just 10.5 overs to complete a comprehensive 10-wicket victory. Mandhana scored a half-century for the Women in Blue.

South Africa, who won the first match by 12 runs, lost captain Laura Wolvaardt (9) and veteran Marizanne Kapp (10) in the powerplay.

Tazmin Brits was dismissed by Deepti Sharma in the eighth over while Anneke Bosch got out at 17 after being caught LBW by Pooja Vastrakar in the 11th over. The South African wickets kept tumbling soon thereafter at the hands of Pooja Vastrakar and Radha Yadav.

Radha was extremely economical as well as she gave away just six runs in her spell of three overs, which included a maiden.

Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil and Deepti Sharma picked up a wicket each as South Africa got bowled out for 84 in 17.1 overs.

Chasing a small target, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma led an unbeaten 88-run partnership for the first wicket.

Mandhana brought up a half-century and scored 54* off 40 deliveries. Her innings included eight boundaries and two sixes. Shafali added 27 off 25 with the help of three fours.
