London appears to be losing its charm for Australian expats with many sharing their concerns after an influencer explained why she was coming home after living there.
Popstar Ed Sheeran has raised issues about crime in London after he was questioned about it on comedian Theo Von’s podcast.
“I’d say every area of London … is sketchy,” Mr Sheeran told Mr Von.
“The nice areas are sketchy; the bad areas are sketchy.”
Londoners have continued to talk about the rise in crime in the city, with petty crimes going unreported as there is a view police are unable to do anything about it.
Popular TikToker Emily Brogan told her more than 520,000 followers about the scary incidents that had happened to her and what she heard other people experience in the UK capital, which left her feeling unsafe.
Emily said while she still loved London it had become too “stabby stabby” to stay there.
She explained a story where her neighbour was robbed, despite leaving her house for seconds.

“She told me she was emptying recycling boxes and she was a metre from the front door. She left the door open … she was a metre from her own flat,” Emily explained in a TikTok video.
“And same, I empty the rubbish and leave the doors open, which is probably dumb in hindsight.
“But she tells me that someone literally walked into her flat and was like ‘adios’. Her s**t got stolen while she was a metre from her door.”
Emily also said she had “not been the same” and had “so much anxiety” after having her phone stolen twice as well as her bag in the space of a month.
“I’m not being overparanoid…I honestly just think like, that’s one of the reasons I’m genuinely going home – the weather, I want change, and also I don’t feel safe here in London,” she said.
“I still love London, but it is stabby stabby. Thank god nothing has happened to me.”

Many viewers resonated with Emily’s experiences in the comments, including fellow Australians who opted to move back home.
“Feel this soo much. I’m Australian been in London for over 10 years now and I’m moving back end of the year. I use to feel soo safe but not the last couple of years the stories you hear are insane!” one said.
“My fam moved to Australia from the UK, and my parents are still so sad at how much it’s changed over there. Australia isn’t perfect, but I feel so much safer here,” another commented.
“Literally go back to Australia, I was born and bred in London moved away cos of that, I’m migrating to Australia for a new job. this country has gone believe me,” a third said.
After rising 20 per cent between 2022 and 2023, London knife crime remains a threat in the major city.

Eight men were stabbed in London within the space of six days between July 3 and July 8, with one killed in Walthamstow in East London.
