In the early hours of Sunday July 7, emergency services were called to a property at Lalor Park following reports of a house fire.
A 29-year-old woman and four children – three boys, aged four, seven and 11, and a nine-year-old girl – were taken to hospital.
Tragically three children, aged two, six and five months, were declared deceased.
In the hours following the fire, police alleged the 28-year-old man at the property had attempted to prevent firefighters from entering the home.
He was placed in an induced coma and taken to hospital.
The 28-year-old man, who remains at Westmead Hospital under police guard, has now been charged with three counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder and damaging property with intent to endanger life.
He is expected to appear before a magistrate via a bedside hearing today.
