Netflix’s Receiver goes behind the scenes to depict the 2023 NFL season through the eyes of five of its top performers. The new NFL docuseries, which was released exclusively on Netflix on July 10, 2024, focuses on four of the very best wide receivers, and one tight end, in the NFL. Those in focus include Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, and Deebo Samuel and George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers. The series is a spin-off to Netflix’s popular Quarterback series that premiered in July 2023.


Receiver provides in-depth footage of various triumphs, losses, and injuries on the field combined with practices, training, and family life off the field. also features additional commentary from NFL players such as Jared Goff, Brock Purdy, Kirk Cousins, Maxx Crosby, and NFL coaches Kyle Shanahan, Dan Campbell, and Antonio Pierce. The creative choice in Receiver to narrow in on both Samuel and Kittle worked out perfectly as the 49ers faced the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. The series also depicts some of the unseen contract negotiations going into the 2024 NFL season, particularly the sizable extensions for St. Brown and Jefferson.

According to Spotrac, “St. Brown signed a 4 year , $120,010,000 contract with the Detroit Lions, including $16,500,000 signing bonus, $77,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $30,002,500. In 2024, St. Brown will earn a base salary of $1,366,000 and a signing bonus of $16,500,000, while carrying a cap hit of $4,862,313 and a dead cap value of $34,862,313.”

St. Brown has earned a cumulative total of $3,210,252 throughout his first three seasons. His current contract extension will spike his career total earnings to $126,586,252 by 2028. St. Brown getting named First Team All-Pro and totaling more than 1500 receiving yards during teh 2023 NFL season made him one of the most valuable and productive receivers in the league. He will become a free agent in 2029.


Davante Adams

On year 3 of his 5-year $140 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders

Davante Adams is a future Hall of Fame wide receiver who led the NFL in receiving touchdowns in 2020 and 2022. According to Spotrac, “Davante Adams signed a 5 year , $140,000,000 contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, including $19,250,000 signing bonus, $65,670,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $28,000,000. In 2024, Adams will earn a base salary of $16,890,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000, while carrying a cap hit of $25,350,000 and a dead cap value of $40,440,000.”


Adams is on the third year of his five-year contract which included $22.75 million guaranteed at signing. His career earnings are currently $112,218,141 and will spike to $202,218,141 at the end of his contract in 2027, when Adams will become a free agent. While there was speculation that Adams may have wanted to request a trade during the 2023 season, Receiver chronicles the behind-the-scenes details of the benching of Jimmy Garrapolo and the firing of head coach Josh McDaniels that ultimately encouraged him to remain a Raider.

On his 4th year of a 5-year $75 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers


George Kittle is one of, if not the, best tight end in the NFL and a larger-than-life force for the San Francisco 49ers both on and off the field. According to Spotrac, “George Kittle signed a 5 year , $75,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including $18,000,000 signing bonus, $40,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $15,000,000. In 2024, Kittle will earn a base salary of $1,210,000, a restructure bonus of $12,190,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000, while carrying a cap hit of $12,204,575 and a dead cap value of $30,523,725.”

Kittle’s NFL career earnings are currently $48,505,903. His $15 million payout in 2024 makes him the 4th highest-paid TE in this upcoming season, topped by Travis Kelce’s $17.1 million salary. Following the completion of his current contract 2026, he will have accumulated a lifetime NFL total of $77,505,903​​​​​​. Earlier this year, Kittle converted $12.19 million of his 2024 salary into a signing bonus and added 1 void year to his contract, which cleared up $9.752 million of cap space for San Francisco.


Deebo Samuel

On his 2nd year of 3-year $71.5 million extension with the San Francisco 49ers

Deebo Samuel is one of the most versatile and explosive wide receivers in the NFL. According to Spotrac, “Deebo Samuel signed a 3 year , $71,550,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including $24,035,000 signing bonus, $58,100,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $23,850,000. In 2024, Samuel will earn a base salary of $20,972,000 and a workout bonus of $200,000, while carrying a cap hit of $28,633,755 and a dead cap value of $42,765,000.


Samuel’s career earnings total $42,659,471 and will spike to $82,132,471 when his contract expires at the end of the 2025 NFL season. Samuel’s contract extension includes the clauses $650,000 for 380+ rushing yards and $150,000 for 3 rushing TDs. Interestingly, both Kittle and Samuel will become free agents at the end of the 2025 season, which may completely change the look of the San Francisco 49ers in just a matter of years.

With an average annual salary of $35 million per year, Jefferson became the highest average-paid non-QB in NFL history at the time of signing. He is the highest-paid wide receiver in league history but other top receivers, such as A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles and Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, are not far behind.
