Sea Eagles debutant Jamie Humphreys enjoyed a “magic moment” with a try only six minutes into his NRL career, but commentators were certain referees missed a forward pass.
Humphreys was the beneficiary of a Jason Saab break and crossed the white line in front of Brookvale Oval faithful after collecting his winger’s pass.
While referee Grant Atkins immediately waved away protests of a forward pass from Knights defenders, commentator Andrew Voss wasn’t so sure.

“That is forward…. Humphreys scores on debut. Referee Grant Atkins was directly in line and he says ‘the new kid on the block, you have a four pointer’,” Voss said.
“Out of the hand, at speed (it looks forward). I don’t want to take a moment away from the young kid, it was forward but that’s a magic moment.”
Rugby league legend Steve Roach echoed Voss’ opinion but questioned how Atkins didn’t immediately spot the forward pass.

“I’m with you Andrew, I think the pass back on the side was forward… oh come on, that’s a howler,” Voss said.
“Have a look where the referee is, surely if we can see it straight away. But good on the young fellow on debut.
“Let’s not take it away from the kid, he keeps it alive on the inside… look at his teammates surround him.”
