Carlos Alcaraz can do no wrong at the moment. Fresh off from winning the 2024 French Open title, the young Spaniard set his sights on winning back-to-back Wimbledon titles. And the 21-year-old did it in style, defeating a familiar foe, Novak Djokovic in the summit clash earlier today. Alcaraz was dominant from the start till the very end, as he inflicted a straight-set defeat on Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4). As emotions flew for the Spaniard after the match, he was caught up in an awkward situation during the presentation ceremony.

Wimbledon is one of the oldest tennis tournaments and has continued following age-old traditions. From players wearing all-white attire to them bowing in front of the Royal family, these traditions are still followed today. One such tradition is the men’s and women’s singles champions shaking a leg together during the champions’ dinner.

While Alcaraz won the men’s singles title this year, Barbora Krejcikova defeated Jasmine Paolini to win the women’s singles title. As a result, Alcaraz would be showing off his dancing skills with Krejcikova as per the Wimbledon tradition. This puts him in an awkward situation as he is not an avid dancer. During the presentation ceremony, the interviewer asked Alcaraz about how his dancing skills were. However, the Spaniard was left speechless and started blushing when thrown up with this question.

Last year, Alcaraz attended the Champions Dinner with Marketa Vondrousova, who won the women’s singles title in 2023. The Spaniard put on a confident look back then, dressed in a black suit over a white shirt, and looked dapper while holding the trophy. However, his emotions shifted to nervousness before shaking his leg with the Czech Republican star.

During the post-match interview, he expressed satisfaction over the job done today and said, “It is a dream for me, winning this trophy. It’s a great feeling to play on this beautiful court, to lift this amazing trophy. I did an interview when I was 11 or 12 years old and I said my dream was to win Wimbledon, so I’m repeating my dream. … For me this is the most beautiful tournament, the most beautiful court and the most beautiful trophy.”

While Alcaraz will look to cherish the sweet moment of his victory today, he has an important tournament coming up for him, the Paris Olympics. The Spaniard will be his country’s biggest hope in the mega-event and will eye his maiden Olympic medal.
