A cyclist sent flying after being hit by car at a busy intersection when he ran a red light has divided the internet.
Dramatic dashcam footage showed the moment a white sedan struck the BMX rider crossing the intersection of Richmond Road and Third Avenue in Blacktown, in Sydney‘s west.
The bike went airborne and landed several metres away, which sparked a furious reaction from the cyclist.
The cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, had crossed the road despite a red pedestrian light showing.
The rider then started banging on the passenger window of the car, abandoning his mangled bike in the middle of the road.
The cyclist’s female companion, who had already crossed the road, was also seen repeatedly trying to open the car door.
Footage of the terrifying incident was shared on the Dashcam Owners Australia Facebook group on Monday and has since attracted 192,000 views.
The clip was also inundated with hundreds of comments.
Aussie drivers were divided about who was to blame, but many believed that the cyclist was at fault.
‘The audacity to punch the window out of anger when it was his stupidity,’ one viewer commented.
Another added: ‘Perfect example why bike riders must dismount to cross roads.’
A third person wrote: ‘Rider shouldn’t be crossing when the driver has a green light.’
A fourth person commented: ‘It was the cyclist’s fault.’
A fifth person commented: ‘Good reason why [cyclists] should pay rego and have insurance.’
Another said: ‘Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.’
NSW Police is aware of the footage, a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
