LINCOLN — Ex-Husker Jack McVeigh will be an Olympian. After that, he could be seeing more of his teammates and competitors.
McVeigh signed a two-way NBA deal with the Houston Rockets, NU announced Tuesday.
A member of the Australian Olympic basketball team that will take the court later this month in Paris, McVeigh scored nine points in 11 minutes against Team USA on Monday in an exhibition.
McVeigh is also coming off his best season in the Australian pro league, where he helped the Tasmania JackJumpers win the NBL title. He averaged 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 52% from the field, including 36% 3-point range. He was MVP of the championship series after averaging 17.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
McVeigh played three seasons for the Huskers, his most productive being 2016-17. He averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 rebounds and started 11 of 30 games. He was also a member of the 2017-18 team that won 23 games, including a program-record 13 conference games.

He is the third Husker to sign with an NBA team this month, joining Keisei Tominaga (exhibit 10 contract with Indiana) and Bryce McGowens (two-way deal with Portland). Dalano Banton also re-signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in June.
Australia has three more exhibition games before the Olympics, where it opens play against Spain on July 27 before facing Canada on July 30 and Greece on Aug. 2.
