Michael Maguire had made inquiries about taking the NSW team bus down the famous Caxton Street before the game – but that was shut down rather swiftly.
In years gone by, the Blues had driven straight through the proverbial lion’s den, but that tradition has been abandoned due to health and safety concerns.
“I don’t think it’s the police, I think it’s the bus company,” Phil Gould said on Wide World Of Sports’ Six Tackles With Gus.
“The bus will be a bit of a write-off by the time it gets down the hill and to Suncorp.
“It’s a shame, it was certainly one of the great parts of Origin, going down Caxton Street.
“They threw everything at the bus and they banged it – there was no health and safety, it was a different planet back then.”
The squad and coaching staff stayed in the heart of Brisbane in the days leading up to game three, but don’t expect to see the intoxicated locals get too close before kick off.
