Serena Williams‘ husband Alexis Ohanian has revealed he’s received a surprising diagnosis after undergoing full body scans.
The 41-year-old Reddit co-founder, who shares two children with one of the greatest tennis players of all time, told his swathe of X (formerly Twitter) followers he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, despite not having any symptoms.
“Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease. Wild,” Ohanian wrote overnight.

“No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that,” he continued.
Ohanian added: “I’ve got a loved one who had it a few years back, showed tons symptoms etc and just couldn’t figure it out until they tested him for it and then found it (treated it successfully, too).
“I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast this was quite a surprise.”

Lyme disease, according to the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care, is a tick bite-associated illness found in the United Kingdom, United States and Asia.
Although it can be contracted overseas, the Federal Government does not support diagnoses of Australian-acquired Lyme disease due to the type of bacteria associated with the disease not being found in the country.

According to the CDC, the infection is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, which is transmitted through the bite of an infected blacklegged tick.
Early stage symptoms of Lyme disease include flu-like symptoms, joint pain, fatigue, headaches and sometimes a rash. Late stage symptoms can be agonising and potentially debilitating.
Ohanian is not the first high-profiler to come forward with a Lyme disease diagnosis, with Bella Hadid, Amy Schumer, Shania Twain, Justin Bieber and more opening up about their battles in recent years.
