Adelaide United is delighted to announce PSV legend and former Dutch international Ernest Faber, as Technical Director.

The announcement comes after the recent strategic partnership with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, further demonstrating the Club’s commitment to longer term football investment.

Faber will work within all technical areas of the football department working closely with Adelaide United Head of Football, Marius Zanin and coaches Carl Veart, Adrian Stenta and Airton Andrioli.

Subsequent to a strategic review of our football programs over the past 12 months, the Club has identified a need for greater investment in our coaching staff, recruitment and player pathways and the appointment of Faber underpins our commitment to achieve on-field success.

Faber’s expertise and global insights will undoubtedly help in enhancing all aspects of the Club’s football programs.

Faber, known in Eindhoven as “Mr PSV,” brings a huge wealth of experience with him to the Reds.

The Dutch international played 175 times for PSV from 1990-2004 and has played 248 matches in the Dutch top-flight

Post-career, Faber was appointed Assistant Manager of the Netherlands national team in 2011 under Bert van Marwijk and worked with the national side at the UEFA Euro 2012.

Faber then became PSV’s Head of Youth Academy in 2018 and will finish his tenure there on 30 June 2024, where he will join the Reds in July, basing himself in Adelaide.

Faber is immensely excited to be joining the Club and is looking forward to the challenge that’s ahead.

“I am truly honoured and excited to be starting this new challenge and cannot wait to get started.” Said Faber.

“When I came to visit Adelaide in January, I was very impressed with the culture of the Club.

There are a number of really good young players in South Australia, and I am really excited to work with Marius and the entire Football Department to help elevate the Club to the standards it strives for.”

Adelaide United Chair, Ned Morris, said:

“Today is a monumental day for our great club and we are absolutely thrilled that Ernest has committed to Adelaide United.

“Our goal is to become the most successful Club in Australia, and having Ernest’s wealth of experience on and off the field is incredibly valuable to us.

“Having Ernest within our ranks strengthens our ties with PSV Eindhoven and will give us opportunities to work with the next generation of great young prospects in their Youth System.”

“We look forward to the positive influence Ernest will have in our Football Department and the organisation as a whole.”

Head of Football, Marius Zanin, is looking forward to working with Ernest in the coming months.

“I am really excited to learn and grow alongside Ernest, and we welcome him with open arms to our great Club.

“His technical expertise will be instrumental to the continual development of our Club, and I look forward to working with Ernest in building a stronger and more successful football program.”
