Race 1. (11:08) Stradbroke Calcutta 13 June (Bm85) 1350m

Back Me

Good thing to start the meeting IMO with 3 Wategos (Bet Now: $3.80). Total forgive in the Takeover Target. Looker wanted to go forward but come race seven, the pattern was clear and the riders inside kicked up, so he had to drag back and with that, the horse pulled hard and then was out in the quicksand in the straight. Hopefully he can settle just off the speed, and on a firmer deck…gee he’ll run well IMO.

Danger

14 Pacific Ruby (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Ciaron Maher trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Aug 18 last year when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track at Randwick behind subsequent Stakes class mare Tintookie. She has jumped out super leading in and her best is clearly good enough.

Long Shot

10 Standing Order (Bet Now: $5.50) can be an improver here for Tony Gollan. He resumed behind Pereille two weeks back at the Sunny Coast where he struggled on the wet ground and couldn’t really pick his feet up in the conditions behind behind the Godolphin galloper. Back on firmer footing here, he’s dangerous.

Race 2. (11:43) The Star (Bm85) 1110m

Back Me

1 Contemporary (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a beauty for James Cummings and should take beating. He resumed three weeks ago at Hawkesbury where he got into a lovely spot under Nash before edging wider into clear air and was powerful late, proving too good in an excellent return. Good room for improvement and seems best suited as a short course specialist. Keen.

Danger

12 Nashira (Bet Now: $4.80) looks the map horse and his best is good enough to threaten. Total forgive last time at Eagle Farm when wide no cover for the trip and that hard run just told late in the piece, finishing down the track behind Ovidius. Maps to stalk the speed and gets D Lane aboard so he has a bit in his corner to run a much improved race.

Long Shot

16 Liquor (Bet Now: $9.00) will give cheek in front. She resumed over 1000m at Eagle Farm when on speed and went hard, but tired badly late in the piece behind Shalaa’s Moment. Pulled up with a poor recovery so a total forgive. Racing style is suited to the 1110m here and she’ll give a sight with her best.

Race 3. (12:18) The Darby Mccarthy 1110m

Back Me

1 Celui (Bet Now: $4.20) is a beauty for Brent Stanley and with the hard 1200m racing under the belt, he’s going to take beating here at the 1110m. He ran in the Gold Coast Guineas two weeks ago where he attempted to lead throughout and for the most part, he looked home, but 1200m on the testing ground just found him out late when third to Corniche. Back to 1110m, firmer footing, ideal racing style…keen.

Danger

If 6 Skirt The Law (Bet Now: $9.00) brings her best, she is going to go awfully close here. Quality filly for Tony Gollan that resumed at Eagle Farm four weeks back where she was doing work on speed but dropped out too badly to blame the early work. Vet found she was lame post race so a total forgive. Trial since was good and she has class.

Long Shot

10 Fortuneer (Bet Now: $3.20) is a very interesting runner. O’Dea/Hoysted trained filly that resumes. She had a three run Summer prep to start her career and won each time, the last win being a dominant display over 1350m at Eagle Farm. 1110m is on the short side for her but beware the unbeaten horse and a recent trial was strong.

Race 4. (12:53) Bill Carter Stakes 1200m

Back Me

4 Clean Energy (Bet Now: $2.10) is a beautifully bred filly for GaiBott and I am confident she can get a Stakes win here. Lot of quality about her debut win at Warwick Farm over 1000m when leading throughout and was quite dominant in the run to the line. 1200m should be fine, good racing style and on a firmer deck, she’ll be hard to get past.

Danger

9 Lady Shenandoah (Bet Now: $4.40) looks a filly that has an engine under the hood. She debuted at the midweeks at Warwick Farm where she got a bit flat footed on the bog but she picked up and was quite good late in the piece when third to impressive winner Clean Energy. That form looks to read quite well for this and on firmer footing, she’ll take beating.

Long Shot

3 Canara (Bet Now: $41.00) has the 1400m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead for this 1200m assignment. That run came in the Clarendon at Hawkesbury when not suited by the race shape but she kept finding in a good effort behind Media World. Likely spots them a start but should be strong late.

Race 5. (13:28) Magic Millions National 2Yo Classic 1050m

Back Me

Are they going to let a fast horse be fast re 1 Spywire? (Bet Now: $3.00) They put the pedal down too hard in the Blue Diamond and rightfully tired. They then rode with a sit in the Valley Pearl and had zero luck behind stablemate and potential star, Growing Empire. His trial at Randwick was very good and fresh at 1050m, I think jump and run.

Danger

9 Eneeza (Bet Now: $2.40) brings a class edge and that will carry her a long way. Moody/Coleman trained filly that has been kept on ice since the Percy Sykes triumph where she got a 12/10 from Lane and in a driving finish, she was too good. Stable is flying at the moment, she has class, change up speed, strong late…very likeable.

Long Shot

5 Embassy (Bet Now: $7.00) looks a leading contender for Team Snowden. He resumed a few weeks ago in the Dalrello at Eagle Farm where he was near the speed throughout and he kept chasing in a strong return when a narrow second to all the way winner Mishani Lily. Fitter and with good upside, he’s going to take beating.

Race 6. (14:03) Chief De Beers 1110m

4 Shooting For Gold (Bet Now:
$SP.00
) is a ripper for O’Dea/Hoysted that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast when at the end of his prep and looking for the paddock, finishing down the track behind King Of Sparta. He is a bomb fresh horse and his recent Deagon trial was sharp.

Danger

9 Situation Room (Bet Now: $12.00) is in for a good prep. Tony Gollan trained gelding that resumed in the Bat Out Of Hell when near the speed throughout and was there to win, looking the winner at stages in the straight, but had to settle for a second to Hardware Lane. Better set up here and I think with a positive ride, on speed, he’ll take running down.

Long Shot

12 Go Wandji (Bet Now: $14.00) will be very strong late here. He resumed a few weeks ago over 1000m at Eagle Farm where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, his finale was more than sound in a strong return behind Shalaa’s Moment, beaten two lengths. Fitter and with time to wind up, hopefully, he’ll be hard to beat.

Race 7. (14:38) Drinkwise Mile 1600m

Back Me

2 Zoe’s Promise (Bet Now: $4.20) takes beating here for Kris Lees I say. She resumed three weeks ago over 1400m at Eagle Farm where she led them a merry dance and spanked them in such an impressive return, running fast overall time. Proven Stakes performer and up to the mile, off that return…she has to be rated as one of the leading contenders.

Danger

5 Thalassophile (Bet Now: $5.00) has class and that class is going to carry her a long way towards victory. She was fresh into the Silk Stocking two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast and under a peach from J Mac, she lifted late and finished best to win and win well. Good improvement to come, proven weight carrier and up to the mile, she’ll take beating.

Long Shot

7 Princess Rhaenys (Bet Now: $6.50) is in for a good prep for Tony Gollan. Market specked her at odds when she resumed in the Silk Stocking a fortnight back and the bets were right because she was a real eye catcher from near last when third to Thalassophile. Might need more racing and get to 2000m but off the return, she has to be respected.

Race 8. (15:17) The Roses 2000m

Back Me

1 Molly Bloom (Bet Now: $3.90) is a star from NZ and off her Bracelet run, she’s going to take a power of beating. Can make a case to say she should have won the Bracelet at the Sunny Coast, getting badly held up and losing all momentum before eventually getting clear and working home with purpose behind Amazonian Lass. Fitter and up in trip, extremely hard to beat.

Danger

9 Good Banter… (Bet Now: $12.00) is she the forgotten horse? She did win the Adrian Knox, beating subsequent ATC Oaks winner Autumn Angel, and I am sure would have gone close had she run there herself. But John O’Shea has had the QLD Oaks in mind for her and I thought her trial at Randwick to get ready for this race was very good, especially her last 100m. She’s right in the mix.

Long Shot

18 Kind Words (Bet Now: $18.00) was accepted for the Doomben Cup but she takes this option for the Oaks. She ran a very credible race in the Bracelet after getting off the speed, making up ground late to run third. Maps to do no work in the run and she does get M Zahra to steer, who does tend to fire on Group l racedays.

Race 9. (15:57) Doomben Cup 2000m

Back Me

I just think 6 Serpentine (Bet Now: $31.00) is a big price here. Hasn’t raced since the Sydney Cup where I thought he was very brave in defeat after not leading, taking a sit and sticking on really after racing over 2000m the start prior. Back to 2000m, tick over trial was good and with an on speed racing style, a likely firm-ish deck, I think he’ll only run well.

Danger

3 Kovalica (Bet Now: $3.50) has the runs on the board and the flashing light last start run to say he’s going to take beating. He comes through the Hollindale after a freshen up and ran very well late, clocking the best late splits of the race when third to Numerian. Fitter and up to 2000m, drying surface, class…appeals.

Long Shot

Gee 5 Vow And Declare (Bet Now: $14.00) looks a big price this old boy. Last run was in the Australian Cup was an absolute belter from near last, closing off with purpose to run fourth to Cascadian. Second was Pride Of Jenni and third, just, was Atishu. That is elite, elite form, he maps to get a suck run in transit and his work last week, from all reports, was very good. Big, big price.

Race 10. (16:30) Brc Sprint 1350m

Back Me

18 Freedom Rally (Bet Now: $6.00) is a horse I have time for and confident he can win this and stamp himself as a Stradbroke contender. He resumed two weeks ago in the ATC Trophy at the Sunny Coast where he ran his race in patches. When asked for an effort, he didn’t respond initially but he picked up and was very good late behind At Witz End. Fitter and up in trip, I think it all points to him.

Danger

12 Yellow Brick (Bet Now: $6.00) is back on track I feel. He did more than enough in the ATC Trophy, sitting on speed and doing work but he kept on and tried hard but had to settle for a second to the hard fit and in form At Witz End. Better set up here and with a more economical run in transit, he’s hard to beat.

Long Shot

6 Irish Songs (Bet Now: $31.00) is a knockout hope with his love of the Doomben 1350m. He resumed in the ATC Trophy at the Sunny Coast and you can make a case to say he goes close. Just got held up at a crucial stage but the run was a beauty for a horse better suited over further, which is here. Knockout chance.

BEST BET: Race One Number 3 Wategos

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 1 Spywire

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 6 Serpentine
