The second round of the women’s singles starts on Day 4 of the French Open. We will get to see 16 matches scheduled for Wednesday, and our writers here at LWOT will predict all of them for you, as always. We split the matches between four articles. Our other three articles feature Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff vs Tamara Zidansek, and Danielle Collins vs Olga Danilovic. Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Shane Black, and Yesh Ginsburg. Who do you think will advance?
French Open Day 4 Predictions
Marketa Vondrousova vs Katie Volynets
Jordan:
There will be many long rallies in this match. Vondrousova will be probably play more aggressively than normal against the patient and athletic Volynets, who is enjoying a very good season so far. This could tighter than many expect but the former runner-up in Paris should have enough craftiness to get herself out of trouble.
Prediction: Vondrousova in 3
Shane:
2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova is up to a career-high ranking of world No. 6. Volynets has the firepower to scare the Czech, but Vondrousova’s consistency will be too much.
Prediction: Vondrousova in 3
Yesh:
Vondrousova is in good form. Maybe she’s not quite at her Wimbledon-winning level from last year, but she’s really good. Much better than Volynets on clay, certainly.
Prediction: Vondrousova in 2
Jana Fett vs Marie Bouzkova
Jordan:
Both players impressed in the last round. Bouzkova took out the seeded Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets, while Fett overcame the very talented Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in a very close match. Fett will need to hit through another consistent and gritty competitor in Bouzkova. I am not sure she will be to do it a second time.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2
Shane:
This is just Jana Fett’s sixth Grand Slam match of her career. World No. 42 Marie Bouzkova will roll.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2
Yesh:
Jana Fett might be impressive in the future. Marie Bouzkova is impressive right now. She hasn’t quite reached her potential, but she probably will, and soon.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2

Liudmila Samsonova vs Amanda Anisimova
Jordan:
It was nice to see Anisimova play well in the previous round after her comeback to the sport this year has been disrupted a lot by injuries. Unfortunately, she is probably playing Samsonova at the wrong time. The Russian is finally hitting some form after a difficult first few months of 2024. I think she will edge this battle of the powerful hitters.
Prediction: Samsonova in 3
Shane:
I really want to pick the hard-hitting American in this matchup, but her lack of match fitness is a concern. The No. 17 seed seems locked in and should find her way to a tight victory.
Prediction: Samsonova in 3
Yesh:
My heart says to pick Anisimova. She’s too talented, yet has been beset by so many issues and injuries in her short career. She seems to have reset a bit, and looks ready to push to her full potential. Is that enough to take out Samsonova, with how the Russian is playing right now? Quite honestly, probably not.
Prediction: Samsonova in 3

Ons Jabeur vs Camila Osorio
Jordan:
An upset is not out of the question here. Osorio is a feisty competitor and her intensity will put pressure on Jabeur, who has often cracked under that this year. Overall, the Tunisian’s greater class still makes her the favourite but this could be a real battle.
Prediction: Jabeur in 3
Shane:
Ons Jabeur is one of the favorites to win this event, and rightfully so. She will have no problem getting by Osorio.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2
Yesh:
Osorio looked like the next big thing in tennis a few years back, but she hasn’t quite found a real peak. Jabeur, meanwhile, is a quiet elite who can never quite seem to win the absolute biggest of matches, but wins everywhere to get to them.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2
