Must read

A man has been arrested after Perth’s biggest shopping centre was plunged into lockdown Friday.

About 3.30pm a fight between two men broke out and police were called to the Westfield Carousel complex in Cannington.

Police later recovered a knife after a 20-year-old man was injured.

There was uncertainty about the number of men involved and whether one or two knives were produced.

On Saturday afternoon, WA Police say the 20-year-old man was punched in the face, not slashed with a knife as previously reported.

It was also reported the man who set upon him fled the scene.

The 20-year-old who was injured was taken to hospital. Police arrested the alleged puncher overnight and are not searching for anyone else, though cannot confirm his age to media at this stage.

About 2.30pm AEST Saturday, a police spokeswoman was also unable to confirm if one or two knives had been seized.

“Cannington Detectives wish to reassure the public there is no ongoing threat to the public or cause for alarm,” WA Police said in a statement.

Anyone with any CCTV, or mobile phone footage of the incident can upload it directly to investigators.

Footage and images inside the centre show shoppers and staff locked inside some stores.

Police asked anyone in the shopping centre to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour, after earlier warning people to stay away.
