Since the T20 World Cup in 2022 however, the team has not fared very well in this format. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have had 4 different chairmen during this period and they even experimented with a different captain in Shaheen Afridi for a single series, only to abandon those plans before the marquee tournament.
Pakistan are also one of the WC teams who will not play any warm-up matches. Instead, they opted to participate in a 3-match T20 series and 4-match T20 series, against Ireland and England, respectively.
How have Pakistan performed since the T20 cricket since World Cup 2022?
The table below quickly highlights how the Pakistan cricket team have performed in their last 24 T20Is since finishing as runners-up in the 2022 tournament:
Pakistan record | Result |
---|---|
4 match series vs England (Away) | Lost 0-2 |
3 match series vs Ireland (Away) | Won 2-1 |
5 match series vs New Zealand (Home) | Tied 2-2 |
5 match series vs New Zealand (Away) | Lost 1-4 |
Pakistan vs Bangladesh (Hangzhou Asian Games) | Lost |

Pakistan vs Hong Kong (Hangzhou Asian Games) | Won |
5 match series in 2023 vs New Zealand (H) | Tied 2-2 |
3 match series in 2023 vs Afghanistan (A) | Lost 2-1 |
To summarize, Pakistan have performed poorly, managing to win just 9 out of their 24 T20Is. Among the 9 wins, 6 of them have come against relatively weaker oppositions (1 vs Hong Kong, 2 vs Ireland and 3 vs a weakened New Zealand team).
In addition to this, the team will head into the World Cup T20 2024 on the back of a loss in the 4-match series against England, in which they lost 2 and the remaining 2 games were abandoned due to rain.
