Sandown racing tips
—
Race 2. (12:45) Australian Steeplechase (3900m)
#1 – Bell Ex One @ $2.60
Bell Ex One knows how to win jumps races with 12 starts for four wins and five placings.
The six-year-old gelding didn’t fire in his only start at Sandown, but he was only a nose behind Count Zero at Warrnambool.
A repeat of that effort, with a slight improvement, is good enough to win the feature steeplechase event.
Race 4. (14:05) Bet with Mates Hurdle BM120 (3400m)
#2 – Affluential @ $3.10
Affluential has been running extremely well this season after posting four wins on the bounce.
The five-year-old is unbeaten in two starts over the jumps, and although this is his toughest assignment, we’re backing him to handle it.
Money is likely to come for him on race day.
Race 5. (14:40) Australian Hurdle (3900m)
#8 – Bazini @ $6.50
Bazini has been in good form since converting to jumps racing, including a win at Warrnambool and a placing at Casterton.
The six-year-old son of Dundeel was no match for Out and Dreaming, but we’re backing him to bounce back from that effort.
Punters get each-way odds to snap up.
Race 6. (15:20) Sandown Cup (3200m)
#4 – Let’sbefrankbaby @ $1.90
Let’sbefrankbaby scored nicely at Caulfield two back before running fourth at Flemington behind The Map.
That form bodes well for this level of racing, and rising to 3200m should be right up his alley, being by Frankel.
Carrying 54kg and Craig Williams helps his cause, so back the favourite.
Muswellbrook racing tips

Race 2. (13:20) FAST Fire Protection Maiden (900m)
#4 – On the Quiet @ $2.35
On the Quiet has looked good at the trials, including a win at Muswellbrook two back.
The three-year-old son of Adelaide is trained on the track, and that adds to his appeal, hence the shortening odds.
He looks to have more upside than most in this field.
Race 3. (14:00) Widden Stud Maiden (1280m)
#3 – Homeland @ $4.00
Homeland didn’t fire on debut when sixth, but we expect a quick bounce back at Muswellbrook.
The son of Shalaa was only 2.7 lengths behind the winner, so he hasn’t too far away, and this is a much easier contest.
This stable knows how to win races at the provincial level.
Race 5. (15:16) Hunter Thoroughbreds C1 (1000m)
#5 – Fourth Spargo @ $3.20
Fourth Spargo didn’t fire at Scone last time out, but her form prior was encouraging.
She scored a win on debut before placing in consecutive runs at Hawkesbury and Gosford, and she followed that with two trial wins.
The ability is there, and she gets all favours from barrier four.
Race 6. (15:51) Shorty Club Aberdeen Cup (1280m)
#2 – Oakfield Duke @ $3.50
Oakfield Duke was too strong for them at Randwick, and having form at Randwick bodes well for provincial racing.
The five-year-old won his only start at Muswellbrook, and getting the inside draw is a big advantage over this distance.
Take the $3.50 odds before they firm on race day.
