The best restaurants to take out-of-towners to show off WA

Must read

As we celebrate WA Day, we had a think about which restaurants show us at our best. The kind of places you can take out-of-towners to show off just how good we’ve got it.

Isola

Rottnest/Wadjemup

What could be more WA than a touch of Italy on Rottnest Island? Our island getaway didn’t used to be much of a culinary destination. Luckily, that has changed and we can now enjoy fresh, WA seafood on Wadjemup while overlooking one of the world’s best beaches. Come for the view, stay for the taglierini with blue swimmer crab, and a glass of Margaret River SSB, of course. Bellissimo, mate.

Wildflower

Perth

This fine dining restaurant with a stunning view of the city has a menu that keeps things very local. It is inspired by the six Noongar seasons and has a focus on native ingredients. On the menu will be dishes like Pemberton Marron with sandalwood nut, blood lime and native ponzu. Or you could be dining on Frozen Wildflowers with lemon verbena, rosella pollen and apple. Now that’s uniquely WA.

Coco’s

South Perth

Tucking into a plate of Geraldton scallops while overlooking the Perth skyline? Sounds pretty West Aussie to us. With one of the best views of the city and a reputation for hosting some high profile visitors (Bill Clinton and Mick Jagger have both dined there), it’s a go to for many people hosting out of towners who want to show off our side from it’s most scenic vantage point.

Millbrook Winery

Jarrahdale

This is a restaurant that doesn’t buy fruit and veg. They simply pick them from their 90-year-old orchard and heirloom vegetable garden. It was Gourmet Traveller’s WA Restaurant of the Year in 2024, and it’s probably one of the best places in the world to cosy up with a glass of red and a delicious meal in front of the fire on a chilly WA winter day — yes, we do have seasons besides summer.

Gage Roads

Fremantle

A pub so close to the a working port that you can wave to the ships as they chug out to the ocean — how West Aussie is that? The food might be pretty pub standard, but the beers are local and those views are 100 per cent Freo.
