Blue Chip Basketball Academy holds Triad First 48 showcasing top players in the area

That’s why 48 of the best boys basketball players in the Piedmont Triad were on hand at Atkins High School on Sunday, June 2 participating in one of Blue Chip Basketball Academy’s showcase events.

Kishon Bishop, the founder of Blue Chip and the boys basketball coach at Atkins, has been holding the Triad First 48 event for the last eight years. Money raised from the event goes to fund several of Blue Chip’s foreign mission trips throughout the year.

Players are divided onto six different teams representing different areas around the Triad and play a round robin schedule throughout the day, with games of varying lengths. Each team has a coach selected by Bishop.

The teams this year were: Forsyth County, Guilford County, Davidson County, Stokes/Surry County, Rockingham/Alamance/Randolph County, and Davie/Wilkes/Yadkin County.

Notable players at the event included Dionte Neal and Kendre Harrison, who helped lead Reidsville to NCHSAA 2-A state championships in both basketball and football during the 2023-24 high school sports season.

Several members of the Journal’s Fantastic 15 all-area team also participated, including Jaire Richburg of East Forsyth and Jackson Powers of Davie County.

Josh Pittman, the Journal’s Co-coach of the Year, coached the Davie/Wilkes/ Yadkin County team.

Richard Daniels Jr., the boys coach at Walkertown, coached the team of Forsyth County players.
