Surprising guest at Higgins and Sharaz’s lush wedding

Must read

Former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins wedded long-time partner David Sharaz on the weekend in a lavish wedding on the Gold Coast, but one of the groom’s guests has caught the media’s attention for an interesting reason.

Federal Court Justice Michael Lee has handed down his costs judgement following Bruce Lehrmann’s failed defamation case against Network Ten and Lisa Wilkinson.

Mr Lehrmann had sued Network Ten and Ms Wilkinson over a 2021 interview on The Project with Brittany Higgins where she aired allegations she was raped in Parliament House in 2019.

The former Liberal staffer lost his defamation bid last month when Justice Lee found, on the balance of probabilities, that Mr Lehrmann did rape Ms Higgins on a couch in parliament in the early hours of March 23, 2019.

Ms Higgins tied the knot with her long-time partner at The Valley Estate in the Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast, with the event said to have cost more than $100,000.

Carrie de Block, whose website states is a “professional Psychic Medium, Intuitive Energy Healer and Spiritual Teacher”, was among 80 attendees of the extravagant event on Saturday.

According to The Australian, Mr Sharaz is a “fan” of her talents and has been a client of Ms de Block’s for years.

Mr Sharaz reportedly did not reveal much when asked about the wedding guest by Margin Call on Monday.

“I have friends from many walks of life and I was grateful to have them all there to celebrate my marriage to Brittany,” he told the publication.

Ms de Block’s website states she has over 18 years of professional experience and is a “well known and trusted professional whose reputation precedes her”.

“Working with passion, authenticity and integrity, Carrie aims to give her clients an experience like no other,” it reads.

“With countless positive reviews and recommendations, her services are highly sought after and often leave clients blown away.

“Carrie connects with clients through one-on-one sessions, teaching at workshops and regularly appears at psychics fairs and performs platform demonstrations throughout the year.”

Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz’s French-themed wedding featured an intimate-chapel ceremony which was followed by a fancy dinner.

During the speeches, senior government advisor Emma Webster – who was the maid of honour – jokingly called Mr Sharaz a “bridezilla”.

The fairytale wedding comes almost two months after Federal Court Justice Michael Lee found, on the balance of probabilities, that Ms Higgins was raped by Bruce Lehrmann in Parliament House in March 2019

Mr Sharaz proposed to Ms Higgins at Byron Bay on New Year’s Eve in 2022, months after the former political staffer was paid about $2.4 million in a compensation claim from the Commonwealth.

A day before their wedding, Mr Lehrmann filed to appeal the judgment of his mammoth defamation battle, which was handed down in April.
