The Princess of Wales may “never return to the role that people saw her in before” following her cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Kate Middleton was once front and centre at royal engagements alongside her husband Prince William, however, an insider source told US Weekly on Tuesday that she was “reevaluating” her duties.
According to the source, Kate’s team is “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back”.
“She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” they said.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams explained that Kate’s return will be based “on medical advice, and it will be very carefully balanced”.
Last month, a source close to Princess Kate revealed she and Wills were struggling to deal with the illness.
Amaia Arrieta, the designer of the clothing worn by the royal children, said the couple are “going through hell” but are maintaining a brave face for their kids — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and six-year-old Prince Louis.
“I’m heartbroken at the moment, I think they are going through hell,” Arrieta said.
“I hope they will be back. It’s really personal.”
Kate, 42, has stayed out of the public eye since January after undergoing abdominal surgery as part of her cancer treatment.
On March 22, after much speculation over her absence, Kate made the announcement she was battling cancer in a video.
“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said in the footage.
It remains unclear whether the mother of three will take part in the Trooping the Colours celebrations on June 15.
Kate’s last official royal outing was on Christmas Day in Sandringham.
