Prince William has revealed the condition of his wife at a D-Day anniversary event as the Princess of Wales continues to be absent from royal duties to undergo cancer treatment.
ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship says royal officials “didn’t rule out” Princess Kate’s attendance at this year’s Trooping the Colour.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not made the cut for Trooping the Colour, the second year in a row they have not been invited to the event.
It’s been rumoured the Princess of Wales will attend the ceremony as long as she feels well enough.
“I have to say, I still think that’s highly unlikely,” Mr Ship told Sky News host Sharri Markson.
“You’ve got someone who is having cancer treatment and has had that massive operation previously.”
Prince William attended the event in Portsmouth, England alongside his father King Charles and Queen Camilla but the Princess of Wales was noticeably absent.
After being asked about Kate’s wellbeing while greeting veterans, William said” “She is better, thanks. She would’ve loved to be here today”.
King Charles led commemorations at the event to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Veterans recounted their stories and hundreds of troops re-enacted the 1944 aerial liberation over the skies of Normandy.
The Princess has currently put public duties on hold as she undergoes cancer treatment, revealing she had started preventative chemotherapy in an emotional video message in March.
It comes amid uncertainty about whether Kate will be attending the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony to be held on June 15.

Kensington Palace last week confirmed the Princess will not be taking part in the final dress rehearsal for the event, The Colonel’s Review.
However, it did not rule out Kate potentially making an appearance at the celebrations for the Sovereign’s official birthday to be held one week later.
King Charles, who is also battling an undisclosed form of cancer, will be in attendance at the Trooping the Colour but will be arriving in a carriage as opposed to on horseback as per tradition.
Prince William’s positive update on his wife came after an insider revealed the Princess of Wales is “going well” but is not able to be out in public much.

“She’s not able to see many people because she is susceptible to getting sick and they don’t want her compromised, but she’s up and about,” the source told American outlet Us Weekly on Tuesday.
A second source revealed Kate’s team are currently “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back”.
“She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” the source told the same outlet.
Princess Catherine’s cancer was discovered after she underwent abdominal surgery at a London hospital at the start of the year.
Kensington Palace has confirmed she is still being briefed on her major royal causes on an intermittent basis.
