Oakland basketball coach Kampe signs two-year extension after historic season

Must read

While so many of his peers are calling it quits, Greg Kampe is going to keep going.

Kampe, who just finished his 40th season as Oakland men’s basketball coach, has signed a two-year extension that will keep him on the sidelines through at least 2028-29. His new deal is for five years, for about $400,000 a year, which includes bonuses.

Kampe, 68, is coming off a historic season, in which Oakland won the Horizon League regular-season and tournament championships and stunned Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament.

It was Kampe’s fourth trip to the Division I NCAA Tournament, and his first win in the Round of 64. Oakland then lost to eventual Final Four participant N.C. State in overtime.

Kampe is currently the longest-tenured men’s basketball coach at a single Division I school.
