Sydney drivers are venting their frustrations at one ‘annoying’ detail about the roads in the bustling city.
Motorist Ally said she is always getting lost in Sydney’s tunnel network of highways because her GPS cuts out.
Many more were quick to agree saying the tunnel system was confusing enough without their GPS signal dropping out leaving them with no idea of where to go.
Driving in Sydney tunnels and the GPA wigs out and you already know you’re ending up on the Harbour Bridge,’ Ally said.
She joked she has ‘accidentally’ seen the lights decorating Sydney city for Vivid festival ‘too many times’ after taking a wrong turn when her map stopped working.
Her clip racked up thousands of views and Sydneysiders shared Ally’s gripe with the city’s tunnels.
‘I somehow end up on the ANZAC bridge when I should be in Leichhardt!!! My GP is busy having a nervous breakdown,’ one viewer said.
‘I have lived in Australia for 25 years and never needed to use the harbour bridge…never! But I always bloody end up on it,’ laughed another.
‘There’s nothing worse than accidentally ending up on WestConnex,’ a third wrote.
‘I accept the extra tolls as my punishment for not knowing where to go,’ someone added.
Some said they have tried to work out where to go when their GPS drops out to no avail.
‘The ‘City North’ vs ‘North Sydney’ signs have got me several times,’ one user admitted.
‘AND because of all the roadworks right before the bridge, it has the wrong directions,’ a second pointed out.
GPS signnals do not work in road tunnel networks as they lode the line of sight to satellites.

Transport for NSW has been bidding to improve GPS signal in Sydney’s tunnels so drivers can navigate through them safely, quickly and accurately.
The government agency has been conducting trails since 2021 to pinpoints areas in the road tunnel network where GPS signals drop out.
Transport for NSW Acting Deputy Secretary Howard Collins made a statement saying: ‘We know how frustrating it can be for motorists when your GPS signal drops out mid-journey.
‘This is even more of a problem for emergency services and freight operators that depend on GPS to quickly find and communicate within their teams.
‘We have been working with tunnel experts to develop solutions that will assist drivers to navigate the existing and future road tunnel network faster and more accurately.’
