“At this stage, all I know from last night is he is stable in the paediatric ICU, he is critical and they are still assessing his injuries,” Price said about the four-month-old.

“As far as we are aware they could not do surgery last night but that’s part of the assessment this morning.”

Queensland Police are appealing for any witness to come forward as they continue to investigate.

“We’re seeking what the actions of the driver was prior to the crash,” Price said.

“At this stage speed is something we are looking at in relation to the extent of the damage, but I can’t tell you at this stage if anything else was involved,” he said.

Upper Caboolture is about 50km north of Brisbane with a population of about 5000.

Price said the family were local to the area and were being supported by police.

“No doubt this will impact the family and local community here,” he said.
