LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Anna Rodgers, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward from nearby Bullitt East (Ky.) High School, signed with the Bellarmine University women’s basketball team, coach Chancellor Dugan announced Saturday.
Rodgers was a three-time All-District and All-Region selection who joined Bullitt East’s 1,000-point club. The native of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, was a four-time Bullitt County Player of the Year, an award sponsored by Schmid Funeral Home and the Pioneer News. In addition, she was an Honor Roll student.
“Anna is someone who plays hard all the time,” Dugan said. “She can score inside and has the ability to out-tough players to gain possession because she’s always going after the ball.”
Rodgers helped lead Bullitt East to back-to-back appearances in the KHSAA Sweet 16 as a freshman and sophomore, with the Chargers finishing as the state runner-up in the latter. Bullitt East posted records of 22-3 and 33-5 those two years.
Overall, Rodgers helped push the Chargers to three district championships and two regional titles. The program amassed 97 wins in her tenure and won at least 20 games all four of her years.
“I’ve been going to Bellarmine camps while growing up, and I knew it was the place I wanted to play when the time came,” Rodgers said. “I also wanted to play close to home so I could represent my town. I hope to bring leadership and intensity to the team.”
