The open beta for Level Zero: Extraction has been released on Steam after a surprise reveal on the PC Gaming Show, meaning you can play it right now.
Anyone hoping to get hands-on with Level Zero: Extraction, which is my most anticipated extraction shooter, can simply head to the Steam page for the game and download the game, which is now available for everyone.
I played the previous closed beta for Level Zero: Extraction and came away incredibly impressed. It is a little easy to say that this is Escape From Tarkov crossed with Alien, but it really is the best way of describing it as it combines the best of both franchises.
You can play as a human mercenary, going into dangerous alien-infested locations filled with other players to try and grab the most valuable loot you can, just like any good extraction shooter. But unlike Tarkov, the location I got to play was full of tight corridors and small environments, adding to the spooky feel. Then there’s the PvP combat, which can end as soon as it starts with high lethality if you have a good weapon for humans.
But there’s always the threat of the aliens, who can shake off your bullets and instead are damaged by light. They are controlled by other real players, with the sole goal of hunting you and all the other humans on the map. You’ll need to take them out with light from flares, the environment or torches to keep them off your back, but they will keep respawning until all the human players are dead or have extracted. As an alien, you have a range of skills available to hunt the human players and scare the life out of them.
Playing as a human is as terrifying as Tarkov is when you are filled with top-tier loot, and the unique combat the aliens force upon you makes this feel very different to just being another looter shooter. Playing as the alien felt a little basic in the last test, but improvements were promised and just knowing how terrifying you can be to others is great fun.
There was still a fair bit of a way to go when I last played, which was a few months ago, but I firmly believe this could be the next extraction hit because the base of the game is incredible. I can’t wait to jump back into the open beta now it is live and see what has been improved since then.
